How tall is former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi? Scottish actor Peter Capaldi has been entertaining film and TV fans for years – most notably with his roles in Doctor Who and The Thick Of It – but his career could’ve taken a very different turn. Back in the early 1980s, Capaldi sang and played guitar in a new wave punk band called The Dreamboys that featured fellow Scotsman and future talk show host Craig Ferguson on drums. They even released a record featuring the delightfully titled song ‘Bela Lugosi’s Birthday,’ but unfortunately disbanded before they hit the big time.

Punk music’s loss was film and television’s gain, however. Soon after The Dreamboys broke up, Peter Capaldi nabbed a part in the BAFTA-winning 1983 film Local Hero and his acting career took off. He later played The Beatles’ lead guitarist George Harrison in the TV movie John And Yoko: A Love Story and throughout the 1990s had bit parts in British TV shows including The Ruth Rendell Mysteries, Prime Suspect and The Vicar Of Dibley. The role that really put Capaldi on the map, though, was playing foul-mouthed spin doctor Malcolm Tucker on Armando Iannucci’s satirical political comedy The Thick Of It, which spawned a spin-off feature film In The Loop and inspired US show Veep.

For Whovians, however, Peter Capaldi will always be remembered as the twelfth incarnation of the Doctor on Doctor Who. Capaldi was Doctor Who’s fourth longest-serving doctor, appearing in the show from season 8 to season 10 alongside Jenna Coleman, who played companion Clara Oswald. Doctor Who fans may have noted the height difference between Coleman, who stands at five feet and two inches tall and Peter Capaldi who – according to Celeb Heights – is five feet and eleven and a half inches tall. Despite his height, Capaldi isn’t the tallest Doctor Who star– that honor goes to Tom Baker who is six feet and three inches.

Since departing Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi has been juggling a lot of projects. He reprised his role as nosy neighbor Mr Curry in sequel Paddington 2voiced Rabbit in Disney movie Christopher Robin and seagull Kehaar in the recent Watership Down miniseries. His other recent roles include playing journalist Randall Brown in The Hour, a World Health Organization doctor in World War Z - AKA a WHO doctor - and Cardinal Richelieu in The Musketeers series. He also appeared in the music video for the song ‘Someone You Loved’ by Lewis Capaldi who is his second cousin once removed.

Currently, Peter Capaldi is getting rave reviews for his performance in The Personal History Of David Copperfield which reunited him with Armando Iannucci, who directed the Charles Dickens adaptation. Next up, Capaldi will appear in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in an as yet unknown role.
