After the end of his most recent high-profile relationship, Pete Davidson could be a riveting lead of The Bachelor, if ABC wishes to continue its recent trend of non-traditional seasons. The former Saturday Night Live star’s dating life has been extremely public, and fans have seen him jump from one A-lister to the next. Pete’s most well-publicized relationships were with Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian, though he’s cultivated a long and robust list of famous ex-girlfriends.
Most recently Pete was dating The Kardashians star Kim, and for a while it appeared the two might make it long term. Though Kim was fresh off her split from ex-husband Kanye West, she fell head over heels for Pete after meeting him while guest hosting SNL. After officially becoming a couple in November 2021, the two were inseparable for months, and Kim even introduced Pete to her kids. Kim and Pete appeared to be going strong, so fans were stunned when the couple announced their split in August 2022. Their breakup was said to be amicable, and though Kim is reportedly ready to be single again, it probably won’t be long before Pete is looking for his next relationship.
While Pete has been having luck with the ladies, ABC has not been having much luck with The Bachelor franchise. The last few Bachelor leads have been very unpopular with fans, and the network’s recent decision to cast two leads on The Bachelorette season 19 has been met with intense criticism. But with Pete’s latest breakup comes a potential opportunity for both him and the increasingly-stale Bachelor franchise. If ABC were to cast Pete as the next Bachelor, the comedian would likely be an electric lead. Aside from Matt James, for years Bachelor leads have been cast from within Bachelor Nation, and it has led to many lackluster seasons. Pete is an individual with indisputable star power, and he would be a lead unlike anything Bachelor viewers have ever seen in the franchise.
There’s a lot that Pete brings to the table if he were to be named the lead. Pete is undeniably charismatic and funny in a relatable self-deprecating way. He also gives off a laid back vibe, and he has scores of fans who find him extremely attractive. But there are also reports that despite his fame Pete remains genuine and grounded. These qualities would make Pete both entertaining and likable as the Bachelor, which is exactly what viewers are looking for in a lead. Pete is said to be very relationship-minded, so it seems he could be ready to settle down with the right partner. There would no doubt be tons of women who would jump at the chance to date Pete, and after his turbulent history dating A-listers, Pete might be eager to date someone more down-to-earth.
But it’s not just The Bachelor contestants’ opinions that matter, viewers would have to be excited for Bachelor Pete, and it seems there’s already interest brewing. A Reddit thread started by u/vibehacks jokingly suggests Pete be cast as the next Bachelor, but based on fans’ responses, many wish this could be an actual casting announcement. “I 100% would watch the crap out of this,” commented u/karacat51, and many others agreed that Pete as the Bachelor would be a must-watch season. “This might actually be the only thing that can revive the franchise,” u/zipfixmas added. Some fans, like u/Living_Afternoon_281 pointed out how much more relatable Pete would be at the Bachelor, joking about dates that include, “riding the Staten Island ferry or getting ice cream at the drugstore after eating Little Caesars pizza.”
Though many of the Reddit commenters said they didn’t want to see Pete as the lead, there were far more who, either jokingly or seriously, were all in for a Pete season. Some Bachelor fans even suggested that if ABC doesn’t cast him as the lead, another network should snatch him up for their own dating shows. Without a doubt, Pete being cast as the Bachelor would generate intense excitement among Bachelor Nation fans, as well as Pete’s fans who have never tuned in to The Bachelor franchise. Pivoting away from former contestants and casting someone as famous as Pete could benefit the foundering franchise tremendously. But ABC would have to convince mega-star Pete that it’s worth his time to pass out roses.
