With the reveal of Persona 6 potentially coming soon, speculation surrounding the game's story is a topic of interest. While no information has been officially revealed, fans of the games can speculate as to what sort of narrative to expect this time. There are a number of directions in which the developers could take the game's narrative.

The team in charge of creating Persona 6 has already expressed its desire to outdo the series' previous entry. Considering that Persona 5 was critically acclaimed, and that its enhanced version, Persona 5: Royal, was 2020's highest-scoring game on Metacritic, the goal for Persona 6 seems like an ambitious one. Here are some of the possible ways Persona 6's story could unfold.

Due to the popularity of the series' modern model, Persona 6's story would most likely share a few basic features with its predecessors. Should this be the case, the player would follow a group of Japanese high school students, dividing their time between developing social connections and navigating some supernatural situation inspired by Jungian psychological philosophy. Additionally, Persona 6's story will likely revolve around a particular concept or theme. For example, Persona 4 delves into the concept of truth, while Persona 5 is a story of rebellion. Keeping with this trend, Persona 6 could feature a new theme - one that could let the series tread into territory only briefly touched on previously.

Persona 6's Story Could Revolve Around Dreams

Persona 5 Mechanics Persona 6 Should Avoid

Tackling the concept of dreams could be an interesting premise for the story of Persona 6. Given the unconscious nature of dreams, they could be good locations for the psychological self-reflection often explored in Persona and its characters. Similar to Persona 4's Midnight Channel and Persona 5's Metaverse, Persona 6's story could introduce a dream world where players would explore and conduct battles against enemies. With this, the games' dichotomy of the school (and social) aspect and the supernatural dungeon crawling could remain intact. Players could forge bonds during waking hours and defeat foes while asleep. Additionally, Persona 6 can borrow a mechanic from Persona 5 and allow players to access the Velvet Room, a staple location in the series, in their dreams.

Regardless of what concepts the developers decide to implement, Persona 6's story has the potential to be the most ambitious one the series has seen thus far. While Persona 6's reveal was potentially teased by Atlus, it may be some time before fans get a hint of what sort of scenario the next main title has to offer. Until then, fans can only speculate as to the future of the Persona franchise.
