Persona 5 Royal introduces a new third semester for players to explore in Shujin Academy. This guide will help players unlock the third semester in Persona 5 RoyalPersona 5 Royal is an updated version of Persona 5 with additional content for players to explore. The major new additions would be a new playable Phantom Thief, Kasumi Yoshizawa, a new confidant character for players to unlock in Shujin Academy that takes the role of the school consoler, and a brand new semester for players to play around in. The game also comes along with plenty of quality-of-life improvements like faster load times since this version was crafted for the Playstation 4 in mind while the original was a port of a Playstation 3 title, the ability to use smoke bombs to escape combat in palaces, and better character models and renders. This is the definitive Persona 5 experience and is a must-have for long-time fans, fans of JRPGs and even for newcomers who wish to take the plunge into the Persona series. Although if players are not careful, they can miss out on a heavy addition to the updated version, the third semester. The player will need to unlock the third semester and is not something that comes along naturally with the story. This guide will help players complete the tasks to unlock the third semester in Persona 5 Royal.

Normally in Persona 5, the school year is broken up into two semesters with a break in-between each one. Persona 5 Royal adds another semester as part of its additional content. Here, players will have more time to max out their skills, build their confidants, and form stronger relationships in the game. Although the game requires a specific timeframe in order to unlock it as if the player is unable to complete it before the time comes, the game will continue with its normal ending and the third semester won't exist. This is a massively missed out opportunity if players aren't careful. It isn't exactly spelled out for the player either and most will likely miss the opportunity to enter the third semester without a guide. The way to unlock the third semester lies with another new feature introduced specifically in Persona 5 Royal. It may seem like a minor inclusion, but it is required to move forward into the third semester. This guide will help players complete what is required to unlock the third semester.

Unlocking The Third Semester in Persona 5 Royal

Persona 5 Royal True Ending How To Get

In order to unlock the third semester in Persona 5 Royal, the players will need to maximize their confidant relationship with the new character, Takuto Maruki. His confidant is the Councilor Arcana and it comes along with its own benefits both inside and outside of combat. Maruki is the school's consoler and will assist the player during his time at Shujin Academy. This character was not in the original Persona 5. This is a timed event though, as, in order to move forward into the third semester, the player will need to reach rank 9 of his confidant before November 17th. Once November 17th hits, it will automatically raise the confidence to rank 10. If the player fails to reach this rank before November 17th, the third semester won't exist, and the player will miss out on a bunch of post-game content. The game will continue on the same path as the original Persona 5. Here are the abilities that come along with leveling up Takuto Maruki's confidant.

  • Rank 1: This is the starter confidant level.
  • Rank 2: The player will be given the ability Detox X, an ability if when Joker is inflicted with an ailment, he may recover immediately.
  • Rank 3: The player will be given the ability Flow, an ability that has a chance to receive the effects of Charge and Concentrate at the start of a battle.
  • Rank 4: No new ability comes with this level.
  • Rank 5: The player will be given the ability Mindfulness, an ability that has a chance to restore Joker’s SP when it is low.
  • Rank 6: No new ability comes with this level.
  • Rank 7: Ths player will be given the ability Flow Boos, an ability that raises the chance of Flow succeeding.
  • Rank 8: No new ability comes with this level.
  • Rank 9: The player will be given the ability Detox DX, an ability that raises the chance of Detox X succeeding.

To unlock the final rank without going deep into spoiler territory, just go through the third semester of the game. Within the third semester is a new final boss that can only be unlocked by raising up Takuto Maruki's confidant level. The majority of the new content in Persona 5 Royal comes along during the ending of the game and most players will have to track through a lot of the same paths they did in Persona 5. It's strange that the game decided the opt into releasing an entirely new game rather than including the new semester, palace, and secret boss as a DLC. Although, the game does drizzle out new information in the story during the playtime that wasn't available in the original game. The game also gives perks to players who have the original Persona 5, including a DLC that comes along with all the older costumes from previous entries of the series. Each costume comes along with its own battle tracks from those older titles. The game also comes along with a new collectible called the Will Seeds. These can be found inside of all the palaces in the game and collecting them all and trading for them will provide the player with helpful accessories. There are even three Will Seeds inside the final secret palace in the game. For players who like to take things a bit slower and enjoy the city streets of Tokyo, they can participate in card games with their friends and raise their confidence levels along the way. The additional content in the game will for sure bring veteran players back to the series, as this has been many most anticipated games to release in 2020. The game also serves as a perfect entryway for beginner players who wish to give the franchise a shot.
