The Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians has potentially already been renewed for season 2 if its lead star is to be believed. The series, which is set to premiere on the streaming platform in early 2024, is the latest live-action adaptation to be based on the children's book series of the same name by Rick Riordan, which follows a young man named Percy Jackson who discovers that he is the son of Poseidon and is whisked off to Camp Half-Blood, a training ground for demigods. The property was originally adapted into a pair of films - 2010's Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and 2013's Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters - starring Logan Lerman in the title role.

GoErie (via What's On Disney Plus) recently sat down with new Percy Jackson star Walker Scobell to discuss the upcoming series. During the interview, he discussed the timeline of the series, which he expects to either be released in 2024, as previously assumed, or in late 2023. He then revealed that season 1 isn't quite finished, with filming set to resume in the New Year. He said "that’s when we film all the cool stuff like the Ares fight" (when Percy faces off against the Greek god of war) and then they will "wrap up until season 2," implying that another season may already be in the cards.

Percy Jackson Season 2 Renewal Chances Seem Very Likely

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 might not be officially confirmed, but all signs are pointing toward yes for the show's continuation. The perennially popular children's book series has only amassed more followers since the original films were released, so there is a large built-in audience for the franchise. Scobell has also become a young actor to watch on many fans' radars after appearing opposite huge stars including Ryan Reynolds in Netflix's The Adam Project and Owen Wilson in Paramount Plus' Secret Headquarters.

Likewise, superfans of the series will be aware that Riordan is no fan of the films, which he felt diverged from his vision too much, especially by aging up the main cast (which also included Alexandra Daddario as Athena's daughter Annabeth and Brandon T. Jackson as Percy's satyr best friend Grover). Riordan's express support of the series, as well as his direct involvement in the project as a writer and executive producer, should assuage fan fears about the potential pitfalls of a new adaptation. It remains to be seen what kind of audience the series can garner when it debuts, but the path ahead seems rosy for the time being.
