Fans of Percy Jackson have been calling for Logan Lerman to appear as Poseidon in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This new series is one of many adaptations of Rick Riordan’s novel series of the same name. In 2010 and 2o13, Lerman starred as the titular character in two Percy Jackson films. The movies left many fans disappointed with how the novels were modified for film, including Riordan. However, he made it clear that he doesn’t fault Lerman, or any of the other actors, for his issues with the movie scripts.

Riordan was not disheartened by this experience and went on to announce that he was working on a TV version of his novels in 2020. Contrasting with the last major adaptation, Riordan will be heavily involved in the writing process and is an executive producer on the project, helping to ensure a much more faithful adaptation. Most recently, it was confirmed that the series would be moving forward with Disney+, and fans are ecstatic.

Fans first started hyping up Lerman for the role of Poseidon on Twitter when the news first broke back in 2020 and have restarted their campaigning after the Disney+ announcement. Despite Lerman’s Percy Jackson films being widely criticized, viewers rarely fault the actors for their upset at the movies, and fans have been overwhelmingly supportive at the prospect of his return. Twitter has been flooded with people pleading for him to be cast, believing that Lerman is perfect for the role of Poseidon.

When the project was first announced, Lerman was quick to show his support, wishing for Riordan to get “the adaptation the books deserve". Riordan stated that he wants to focus on casting Percy Jackson and his friends first, and as they have only recently started the audition process there is little known about any of the cast. However, Alexandra Daddario (who played Annabeth Chase alongside Lerman’s Percy Jackson) gave a firm no when asked if she will be involved in the Disney+ series.

Lerman was 18 when he first underwent the role, six years older than Percy Jackson was in the novels, which was just the start of fans’ problems with the movies. While Lerman might not have been the best match for Percy, almost 10 years later the similarities between Lerman and the in-book description of Poseidon are starting to pile up. It’s unclear if either Lerman or any of the team behind Percy Jackson and the Olympians are aware of this campaign, as neither has made any kind of comment. Regardless, Riordan estimates that casting will take several months, so fans will just have to wait and see if the petitioning has worked.
