The Percy Jackson series has been commissioned for Disney+ but newer fans might not know all the details surrounding this Greek mythological adventure. The main setting of the series is that of Camp Half-Blood, which is where Percy spends the majority of his spare time, outside of his dangerous missions.

Although Camp Half-Blood has been adapted to screen before in the previous two movies, this upcoming iteration is likely to be more accurate to the original source material than ever. These elements of the Camp from Rick Riordan's work are sure to be integrated into the series in some capacity.

Its Entrance Is Hidden

Camp Half-Blood is located within the world of mortals despite its ties to the gods above. It can be found on Long Island, New York, but has to be carefully disguised so that passers-by do not come across this elite training ground for the next generation of heroes.

Although it has a bold sign that announces Camp Half-Blood, those who cannot see through the magic will see that it's Delphi Strawberry Service instead. Percy himself is shocked to discover the location, but it's likely that this reveal will play into the first episode of the TV show.

Protected By The Golden Fleece

Talia holds the Golden Fleece in Percy Jackson

With so many dangers, whether it be the terrifying monsters of the novels or the hatred mortals have for Demi-Gods, Camp Half-Blood has to be protected so that these heroes can live in peace and prosper in their studies. There's consequently a magical shield that keeps out unwanted outsiders.

It's extremely powerful which has sometimes been a detriment when the likes of friendly Cyclops have to enter the camp. This protection is thanks to the Golden Fleece that hangs from Talia's tree. Without it, the magic withers away and the Camp becomes vulnerable to attack.

Treated As A Home From Home

Much like Hogwarts is for Harry Potter, Camp Half-Blood is very much a home from home for Percy Jackson and his friends. Indeed, without anywhere else to turn, these cabins have really become a refuge, even when camp isn't in session.

The location really has everything that a student could need, from a canteen to a weapons barracks, a forge, and plenty of areas for recreational downtime. Plus, plenty of Demi-Gods will be amongst siblings when staying at the camp, giving the area a more communal and familial feel.

Teachers And Professors

There are teachers and other professors across Camp Half-Blood who help show the next generation the correct path forward. Notably, the God of Wine, Dionysus has been cursed to watch over the camp by Zeus, a role he absolutely despises.

At the head of the camp is the Centaur Chiron, who is far more enthusiastic about his role and really teaches Percy everything he knows. Satyrs and other magical creatures help to round out the staff, with an entity known as Argus standing guard of the camp eventually.

Training

The training at Camp Half-Blood is incredibly detailed so that these young men and women can protect the world against a range of mythical threats. There are simple classes such as learning Greek and others such as basic translation tasks. But there are also a range of skills to master.

From forgery to sword fighting, combat is complemented with activities that might be used in the field. Knowledge is so vital here, but this is all backed up with physical tasks that boost fitness as well to craft the perfect hero. The films didn't go too in-depth into these lessons besides capturing the flag, but perhaps the TV show can learn from that.

The Oracle

One of the main locations of the camp is the Cabin where the majority of major decisions are made. The Oracle was previously kept in the attic of the building although has been moved to her own cave as well, once the spirit of the Oracle had been taken over by Rachel Elizabeth Dare.

Originally the Oracle of Delphi was a husk of a human, creepy in both its look and its nature. It would give heroes prophecies about upcoming quests, although vitally she predicted the path that Percy Jackson himself would one day tread. It's vital to have an Oracle within the Camp.

A Cabin For Each Of The Gods

Camp Half Blood in Percy Jackson

The Gods have had plenty of children and to organize them amongst the camp, each of the Gods has their own cabins. These cabins are decorated to reflect the deities they represent and only the Demi-Gods of those immortals reside in each one.

Unfortunately, not every God was gifted a cabin though, which means some of their children have to live together. Percy's cabin is largely empty due to there being very few other children of Poseidon until his brother Tyson comes along that is.

Further Expansions

After the war, Percy ensured that the cabins had been expanded, as had the camp itself. Every Demi-God should be recognized and have their own space, with magical creatures also getting a more prominent role in the camp. The result was a much larger Camp Half-Blood which welcomed all.

This evolution is vital to track within the show and represents such a positive wave of change which allows the children of even Titans to one day step through the camp doors in order to bring about a new era of peace. The decision also tremendously boosts the power of Camp Half-Blood.

Roman Equivalent

Zeus and Poseidon talk and brood in Percy Jackson.

There's actually a Roman equivalent to Camp Half-Blood which is a lot more militaristic in its approach but still aims to build its own heroes. Known as Camp Jupiter, it's located around San Francisco and has been a rival to Camp Half-Blood for quite some time.

Some amongst Camp Half-Blood didn't even know of its existence when Percy first arrived, but it's full of the children of the Roman Gods when the Greek deities transition into these mythological equivalents. There's a huge potential for Disney to portray an extended universe and Camp Jupiter is a way to do just that.

Magical Creatures

Camp Half-Blood isn't just home to the Demi-Gods though, there are plenty of magical creatures, who are not violent in nature, who have found refuge here away from the mortals. To start with they were looked down upon, but have slowly built a life for themselves here.

The vast array of nature surrounding the camp means that it's perfect for those creatures that are linked to these environmental elements. Disney can really lean into those incredible beasts that inhabit the camp, to really round out this fantastical world.
