Horror icons Pennywise and the Grady twins from The Shining have been made into some strange new Monster High dolls. The Mattel line of dolls has been around since 2010 and takes its inspiration from classic horror and sci-fi films as well as fiction based on creatures.

Horror fans are some of the most loyal enthusiasts when it comes to paying to tribute to the characters – good or bad – who feature in films and franchises. In fact, quite often it’s the baddies who get the most attention from fans, likely because watching them terrorize their onscreen victims is so hard to forget. In the case of both Pennywise and the Grady twins, there likely couldn’t be two more different horror movie favorites. While all three characters came from the mind of acclaimed horror novelist Stephen King, Pennywise – who is the killer clown at the heart of IT, exhibits a much more savage intent to kill than The Shining’s Grady twins. None the less, there exists no shortage of fans of either wicked entity, and many horror fans are consistently on the lookout for any new collectible involving the characters.

The latest take on both Pennywise and the Grady twins comes to us courtesy of Bloody Disgusting. In a bid to capitalize on the Halloween season, Mattel have released a new line of dolls with the collector in mind. The Monster High Skullector series offers the first new dolls that the Monster High brand has released in a couple of years. Modeled after Pennywise in filmmaker Andy Muschietti’s IT films and the Grady twins in Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, the new dolls will be released on October 23rd to eager collectors. You can check out all three dolls in the official images below:

Of course, the dolls aren’t exact representations of the horror film characters that fans have come to love, and that’s what arguably makes them so strange. Some will likely have a hard time deciding whether these dolls are cute or just plain creepy, which sort of plays into the false sense of security that the actual characters give off in their respective films. The Grady twins in particular have always been a strange fan favorite, mainly because they don’t actually harm anyone in The Shining and were instead the unfortunate victims of their father, Delbert. Officially known as Alexie and Alexa, there has been years of speculation as to whether the girls are actually twins in the film or not. At any rate, the two young girls are at the center of a tale of familicide, possession and the darkest of dark horror.

Between IT and The Shining, however, the probability that Pennywise is more popular with horror fans than the Grady twins is a safe bet. This can be attributed to the recent revival of the character via Muschietti’s aforementioned films. The Shining, on the other hand has not been recently rebooted – much to the relief of many die-hard fans of the original. At any rate, regardless of who’s more popular, it’s safe to say that these new Monster High dolls are going to be quite sought after upon their arrival.
