A creepy new clip from the upcoming X preque, Pearl has been released and shows Mia Goth performing an eerily familiar dance. Released by A24, X hit theaters earlier this year, putting its own unique spin on the much-loved slasher trope. The film followed a group of adult film stars who set out to make a groundbreaking film in an old farmhouse in rural Texas. The film saw Goth star in a dual role, playing both Maxine, an adult film star, and Pearl, the elderly woman who owns the farmhouse with her husband. X saw each of its stars picked off one by one after Pearl grew jealous of their youthfulness.
Following the enormous success of X, audiences were delighted at the news that director Ti West would be releasing a prequel, Pearl, with the film having been shot back-to-back on location in New Zealand following X's production. While X is set in 1979, Pearl will take place in 1918 and follow the titular character's earlier years, exploring her origins and the events that led to her becoming a relentless killer. Given the production schedule, Goth will, naturally, return to reprise her role with early Pearl trailers having shown an eerie and enticing follow-up to the first film.
In a newly released clip from the upcoming horror movie, Pearl can be seen in her younger years, performing a dance that is largely reminiscent of a scene from X. Shared by XMovie, the creepy new clip shows Pearl performing a dance, which is then spliced into a scene from X in which Pearl danced after murdering one of her victims. With Pearl set to release just six months after X, very little has been revealed about what audiences can expect from this much-anticipated prequel. When previously discussing the prequel, West opened up about how he had no desire to repeat himself with the film's creation and that both X and Pearl will instead enrich one another rather than the latter simply being a carbon copy of its predecessor. While the events of Pearl remain unknown, West didn't rule out the possibility of a third installment, leading many to question just what could lie ahead in the prequel.
This exciting new clip hints that audiences could see some parallels between Pearl's actions during the events of X and various moments from her youth, which could perhaps yield some interesting and unexpected motivations behind her brutal killings. With Goth having given a standout performance as both Maxine and Pearl, many are excited to see her now take on this third role as younger Pearl and expand this terrifying character even further. For now, there isn't long to go until Pearl makes her horrifying return as the prequel officially lands in theaters next month.
