Cillian Murphy was outstanding once again in the final season of Peaky Blinders and the actor's fans will be content with the knowledge that there is still more to come from him as a TV movie to wrap up the adventures of Tommy Shelby is still on the way. There's a blockbuster project too, with Murphy set to star as the inventor of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheimer, in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

For now, Tommy Shelby remains Murphy's most appreciated character. Fans adore the Birmingham crime boss and politician because of his leadership skills and the brilliant manner in which he always outfoxes his foes. One of the things Tommy is extremely proud of is his time as a soldier, having fought in the Battle of Verdun and the Battle of Somme during World War I. He, therefore, finds it appropriate to honor all military practices, including the celebration of Armistice Day. For that reason, he chooses to pardon Dr. Holford for his sins.

In one of the key moments of the Peaky Blinders pilot, Tommy's gang takes the wrong shipment of weapons during a pickup. It turns out the shipment is full of government weapons headed to Libya. When asked to return them, Tommy refuses.

Tommy is not only the ultimate opportunist but also has great business acumen. He figures the government will be forced to pay a high price for whoever is in possession of the weapons. Regrettably, he attracts heat his way as Churchill sends Inspector Campbell to retrieve the weapons. Nonetheless, keeping the weapons changes Tommy's life completely as it's through his feud with Campbell that he gets to meet Grace. He also earns Churchill's respect, a development that enables him to join politics in the future.

Tommy breathes a sigh of relief when he finally shoots one of the best Peaky Blinders villains, Michael Gray. As he stares at the body, he makes sure to boast.

Tommy's confidence is one of the most admirable things about him. Whether it's going up against an opponent or dealing with a weighty matter, the crime boss never doubts that he'll find a way to come out on top. And he always does. The Michael issue, for instance, proves a complex one because he is Polly's son but Tommy still manages to take care of the situation.

Tommy is forced to seek refuge at Grace's apartment when Inspector Campbell finds the government weapons he had hidden in Danny Whizbang's fake grave. While there, he vows to stick by Grace's side.

As hard-boiled as he is, Tommy is a very romantic person and that's the reason he and his partners make some of the best Peaky Blinders couples. As an undercover agent, Grace was at times conflicted about whether she should work again with Tommy or with him but the declaration of love fully convinces her to side with him.

As they prepare to head to the races, Grace asks Tommy whether he has bought the suit he will wear to the occasion. Well, Tommy lets her know that paying for clothes is something he never does.

Tommy has a passion for fashion and it could be argued that he is the best-dressed male in the series, though that's something Luca Changretta doesn't agree with. But cool outfits don't come cheap. To get around that problem, Tommy uses his status as one of the nation's biggest crime bosses to shake down tailors.

At first, Arthur doubts Tommy's decision to take on Billy Kimber. An angry Tommy then reminds him to leave the thinking and strategizing to him.

Tommy ranks first among the smartest Peaky Blinders characters and is very aware of his high IQ. He is a great judge of character too and tends to accurately figure out what each person is good for. Tommy knows his brother Arthur is nothing more than brawn hence he doesn't consider taking his advice, not even for a moment.

After being assigned the task of assassinating Field Marshal Henry Russell. Tommy begins suspecting that Campbell is planning to kill him after the job is done. He, therefore, issues a threat.

In everything he does, Tommy treads with caution. There is rarely a move he makes without a contingency plan and he makes sure to do the same here. It's by being careful that he survives the entire series. And that's an impressive feat given the high number of foes he accumulates during his criminal career.

When Tommy is asked whether he'd prefer a simple life instead of all the chaos that comes with being a crime boss, he rubbishes the question. To him, simple life has no meaning.

Though the challenges Tommy faces stress him out a bit too much sometimes, he wouldn't have it any other way. It's the complex life that has brought him greatness and he is totally okay with that. Over the course of the series, he even moves further and further away from a simple life, notably by becoming the MP for Birmingham.

In order to tame the angry Birmingham Boys leader, Billy Kimber Tommy offers to help him fight the Lee Family. Later, he clarifies that this was all a strategy to make Kimber turn a blind eye to his practice of fixing the horse races.

Tommy is a great leader and negotiator which is the reason he ends up having so many important associates. Here, he explains that one cannot simply negotiate when they have nothing to offer in return. It has to be a win-win situation for both parties. Though Kimber is despicable, Tommy reasons that helping him will be a small price to pay for the business benefits they will reap.

When the mines and factories get closed because of the Shelby company's moves, Tommy is accused of being a traitor to his class. He disagrees, insisting that is a symbol of hard work.

Tommy's ambition is limitless. He values ascendance and profit over the respect and admiration of ordinary citizens. He sees no sense in aiming to please people instead of working hard to extract the most success out of life. It's an attitude that propels him to greater heights and makes him dine with kings.
