BBC has kicked off 2022 by releasing a brand-new trailer for the final season of their acclaimed television series Peaky Blinders. The crime drama stars Cillian Murphy as the protagonist Thomas "Tommy" Shelby. He is joined by a supporting cast that includes Paul Anderson as Tommy's older brother, Arthur Shelby, and the late Helen McRory as Tommy's aunt, Elizabeth "Polly" Shelby. There are plenty of well-known actors who feature at various times in the first five seasons as well, namely Sam Neill, Charlotte Riley, Annabelle Wallis, Adrien Brody, Sam Claflin, Aidan Gillen, Anya-Taylor Joy, and Tom Hardy, to name a few.

Created by British screenwriter Steven Knight, Peaky Blinders is set in Birmingham, England, after the First World War and follows the exploits of the notorious Shelby family led by the fierce Tommy Shelby. The series is loosely based on a real urban street gang of the same name who was active in the city from the late 19th century to the early 1900s. Peaky Blinders first premiered in 2013 and has garnered critical acclaim during its time on air. Following the end of season 5 in 2019, the series was renewed for a final season and a feature-length movie, which is set to cap off the story.

Now, a new official trailer for the forthcoming sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders has been released by BBC. Accompanied by a haunting version of "Hunter" by Anna Calvi playing in the background, the trailer displays some of the stylish cinematography and atmosphere that fans of the show have been accustomed to. The teaser shows a great deal of gunfire and plays out as a ticking time bomb with the intensity ramping up towards the end, which suggests an explosive and intense race to the finish line for the Shelby family. Audiences were also shown glimpses of returning actors Anya-Taylor Joy and Tom Hardy, who was recently confirmed to return as Alfie Solomons. Check out the full trailer below:

Production on season 6 had been derailed for many months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with filming beginning only in January 2021. Furthermore, Helen McRory's tragic passing in April after a private battle with cancer added to the uncertainty as far as the fate of her character was concerned. However, fans will be hoping they haven't seen the last of Aunt Polly. With the trailer offering little information on that front, it's possible that viewers will be treated to McRory's final appearance as the fan-favorite character when Peaky Blinders season 6 premieres this Spring.

The Peaky Blinder's season 5 finale ended with Tommy being dealt a major blow to his plans following a failed assassination attempt of Sir Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) at his political rally. The final shot shows Tommy driven over the edge by Grace's apparition as he keeps a pistol pointed to his head, contemplating taking his own life. While it was clear as a bell that Tommy would never pull the trigger, it's the aftermath of the above-mentioned events for which that fans have been clamoring to see the conclusion. Peaky Blinders season 6 trailer promises plenty of answers as to what exactly transpired in the season 5 finale, albeit with further twists on the way.
