Gangster series Peaky Blinders has seen its fair share of character deaths, but what gun-toting, razer-capped characters could return for the recently announced full-length movie? The much-loved Netflix series wrapped filming of its sixth and final season in the spring of this year. Peaky Blinders season 6 is due out this holiday season with the film anticipated to film in 2023.

Peaky Blinders follows the Shelby family, Birmingham’s most notorious gangsters, as they build their empire, going from bookmakers to wealthy aristocrats. Peaky Blinders season 5 began with the stock market crash of 1929 that sent the Shelbys back to Birmingham after losing much of the wealth that gang-leader Thomas “Tommy” Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) had built. This, along with the death of his wife, Grace (played by Annabelle Wallis), and brother, John (played by Joe Cole) at the hands of the Changretta gang sends Tommy into a tailspin. Peaky Blinders season 5 ends with Tommy running into a field to meet his dead wife on a black horse and press his gun to his head. While it is unlikely Tommy pulls the trigger, it does leave many questions as to how the story of Tommy Shelby will end in the Peaky Blinders movie.

After the sad loss of Peaky Blinders cast member Helen McCrory, who played the formidable and irreplaceable Aunt Polly, the show will undoubtedly see some major changes as her character has been one of great significance throughout the series. Peaky Blinders has also seen several characters, both part of the main ensemble as well as supporting characters, killed off throughout its five seasons. Here is a list of all the characters that have exited the show, but may return for the highly anticipated full-length movie.

Alfie Solomons

Alfie Solomons is reunited with Arthur Shelby who tries to walk away from him, since the last time they met Alfie nearly killed him in Peaky Blinders

Jewish gang leader Alfie Solomons is a long-time friend and sometimes enemy of Tommy. There is unparalleled respect between Solomons (played by Tom Hardy) and Tommy as both are forever scheming and neither seems to ever truly know if they are aligned or warring. In Peaky Blinders season 4, Tommy shoots Alfie Solomons in the face for betraying him, but Solomons returns in the finale of season 5, having survived. If he survives through Peaky Blinders season 6, it is likely Alfie Solomons will continue to play a mercurial role in Tommy’s schemes in the movie.

Michael Gray

Helen McCrory Polly Gray Finn Cole Michael Gray Peaky Blinders

Exiled to America after trying to take the business from Tommy, Michael is not likely to stay banished. Last season showed his wife, Gina, pulling his strings and that is likely to continue as the pair move forward with their plan to take over the business in America. With the passing of Helen McCrory, any funeral shown for Aunt Polly will likely bring Michael back from America as well.

Gina Gray

Anya Taylor-Joy in Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders Gina Gray, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, is the manipulative American wife of Michael Gray. In Peaky Blinders season 5, her plans to infiltrate the Shelby ranks and steal the company from Tommy leads to her and Michael's banishment and her scheming will likely continue. While her and Michael’s plan may cause turmoil from afar for a while, it is likely that Gina will return to Birmingham for the film.

May Carleton

May Carleton in Peaky Blinders

Played by Charlotte Riley, May Carleton has been somewhat of a constant in Tommy’s life throughout the show. As a lingering love interest and trainer of Tommy’s racehorses, May has continually popped up on Tommy’s radar throughout the show’s five seasons. The upcoming film may finally see Tommy and May together, but, regardless of their romantic status, she will likely continue to be someone he trusts and calls on in times of need.

Princess Tatiana Petrova

Princess Tatiana Petrova and her parents, the Grand Duke and Duchess, may resurface for the Peaky Blinders movie after exiting the show at the end of season 3. Revealed to be in league with Tommy after Tommy pulled a jewel heist on her family, Tatiana is not someone Tommy trusts. Her (and her family’s) appearance in the movie would most likely be Tommy using their connections in one of his grand schemes or may have the royals cast as his enemies.

Charles “Darby” Sabini

Alfie Solomons and Darby Sabini attempt to come to a deal so they can deal with Tommy Shelby and end their war in Peaky Blinders

Tommy’s conflict with Sabini is center stage in season 2 when Sabini and Solomons join forces against the Shelbys. When Churchill orders Sabini to release Tommy after he has been captured at Epsom, Sabini is seemingly defeated, but his name pops up in season 4 multiple times when he is said to be in league with Luca Changretta (played by Adrien Brody). Viewers may see his return in the upcoming film as he is still actively participating in plots against the Shelbys.

Jessie Eden

Jessie Eden saw a great deal of action in Peaky Blinders season 4 as she led female workers to strike throughout Birmingham. Jessie believes Tommy when he says he is a communist like her and she helps him gain a seat in Parliament, only to find that he has misled her both romantically and politically. As her character is based on the real Jessie Eden who went on to lead another women’s strike and a rent strike in Birmingham in the 1930s, it is likely viewers will see Jessie Eden’s character again.

Esme

Esme looking straight at the camera in Peaky Blinders

John Shelby’s gypsy wife is known for her sharp tongue and furious personality throughout the show. She has strong ties to the gypsies and has never backed down to the Shelby’s. After John (played by Gangs of London’s Joe Cole) is murdered in the Changretta feud, Esme takes John’s children to live with the gypsies, but her return in the film is likely, whether as an ally to the Shelbys or an enemy.

As writer Steven Knight has always planned to have the series end in the period just before World War II, it is likely that will be the time frame for the film. That said, the Shelby family’s young children will be around the eligible age for conscription. Tommy’s son, Charles, Arthur and Linda’s son Billy, and John’s children will likely all return for the Peaky Blinders movie along with Karl, Ada’s son by Freddy Thorne.
