With different enemies for the group to overcome, there have been some truly incredible characters created for the show. With different levels of intelligence being highlighted throughout the characters, in this list we will breakdown which of the main characters from the show is the smartest.

Finn Shelby

The least intelligent main character from Peaky Blinders is Finn Shelby, who is the youngest member of the Shelby family. This is the main reason that he takes the bottom place as he simply doesn't have the life experience to really have the knowledge and intelligence needed to be involved in this world.

As the series has developed, Finn has been highlighted more frequently and has been given more responsibility. While he is always happy to get stuck in with a gun at his hand, his eagerness can sometimes be his downfall, leading the rest of the family to often clean up his mess.

Arthur Shelby

Next on the list is Arthur Shelby who doesn't have the same youthful excuses that his younger brother has. Arthur is a complete and utter maniac, to put it simply. He might be Tommy's most trusted right-hand man, but that isn't because of his intelligence.

Arthur is the real hitman of the group and is the person Tommy relies upon to get his hands dirty when needed. He is very talented when it comes to violence (if that is even a thing), but he is isn't the smartest as he will simply charge into action, no matter the cost.

Lizzie Stark

While she might eventually be a part of the family due to her relationship with Tommy Shelby, it is clear that their love for each other isn't real. Lizzie does an amazing job throughout the series in terms of her personal growth, going from a prostitute to someone with wealth and influence.

However, she doesn't really do that through intelligence, and more by the circumstance of her time with Tommy. When Lizzie tries to take over and get Tommy out of her life, her plans don't quite end up working, proving she isn't quite as smart as she thinks she is.

John Shelby

Unlike all of his brothers, John Shelby is less obsessed with violence and killing people, which makes his death even sadder. He is far more caring and loving than the majority of the Shelby family, and he is smart in that way, which is something he shows throughout the series.

While John does get involved in plenty of violent moments, he isn't creating the plan of attack at any point, as that isn't really his skillset. However, his intelligence is shown at times, it just isn't as great as other members of the show.

Aberama Gold

Aiden Gillen is a terrific actor who always tends to play very smart characters, as is shown by his role in Game Of Thrones. In Peaky Blinders, his character, Aberama Gold is no different as he is another very smart character in the series.

Aberama is called upon by the Peaky Blinders when needed and is someone who you do not particularly want to mess with. He is very similar to Tommy in the sense that he likes to think all of his attacks through to make sure they make sense, always trying to be one step ahead of his enemies.

Ada Shelby

The one member of the Shelby family who absolutely hates violence is Ada. The only girl of the siblings, she is very level headed and tries her best to stay well clear of all the illegal activities that her family get up to, instead, putting her focus into activism and trying to improve equality.

While she doesn't get highlighted quite as much as other members of her family, that doesn't mean she's not as smart. Ada is incredibly intelligent and is smart enough to stay out of trouble, and only get involved when she is desperately needed.

Michael Gray

Peaky Blinders Michael Gray

Michael Gray comes into the Peaky Blinders world a little later than most characters on this list, but he quickly becomes a very important one. Michael essentially becomes Tommy's apprentice early on, learning from the head of the family and trying to follow in his footsteps.

This ends up with Michael actually trying to defy Tommy and go off on his own. But he does prove his inexperience by making a very costly mistake while in America that puts his future in jeopardy and proves he isn't quite as smart as his master just yet.

Alfie Solomons

He might not be an official member of the Peaky Blinders, but Alfie Solomons is called upon countless times throughout the series to help Tommy Shelby. They might have been enemies at one point in time, but they quickly learn that they're stronger working together.

Solomons and Tommy are similar in that they want to think through every action before they take it. Played expertly by Tom Hardy, the character quickly became a very popular one for the series as he proved he is willing to get his hands dirty, but only when it suits him.

Polly Gray

Peaky Blinders Polly Gray

Polly Gray is deceptively very intelligent and that is something which is revealed more as the show develops. At first, it is unclear what Polly's role is. She has some form of psychic abilities where she sees people's future, but that isn't all she offers.

Polly is crucial to the Peaky Blinders and their development and business growth. She constantly helps Tommy come up with various plans and she does so in a very sneaky way. Polly will often end up getting the best of her enemies without them even knowing until it's too late because she is that smart.

Tommy Shelby

When it comes to Peaky Blinders there really is only one person who can take the top spot when it comes to intelligence, and that is Tommy Shelby. The leader of the group and the man behind all of the plans and business ideas, Tommy has a reason for everything he does.

He might love getting violent, but he does try to make sure when fighting is done, it is done right. Tommy always devises schemes and plans to further his business, whether it is selling alcohol or dominating the horse racing. He even gets involved in politics, working alongside Winston Churchill, proving his intelligence once and for all.
