As Peaky Blinders slowly draws to a close, the series creators are teasing spin-off series, leaving the door open for a perfect Alfie Solomons TV series. While Peaky Blinders was originally intended for a 7-season arc, it has now been reimagined and after Peaky Blinders season 6 finishes the series will conclude with a final movie. However, creator Steven Knight that while the main storyline for Peaky Blinders might be coming to an end, the movie will set up some spin-offs that will keep the characters and the universe alive.

Alfie Solomons (Tom Hardy) first appears in Peaky Blinders season 2 as a Jewish gang leader in London’s Camden Town. He develops a tenuous working relationship with Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) as the two team up against the Italian gang led by Darby Sabini. Since his initial appearance, Solomons has played a role in every season of Peaky Blinders, although he only made a small (if important) appearance in Peaky Blinders season 5. While Alfie Solomons and Tommy Shelby could be called friends and Alfie might be one of the people who best understands Tommy, Alfie has betrayed Tommy on numerous occasions when it has best suited him.

One of the things that makes Peaky Blinders such a consistently interesting show is its ability to portray characters like Thomas Shelby who are, at best, morally gray, but ultimately fascinating individuals. Alfie Solomons epitomizes this idea and is by far the most intriguing character within a cast full of well-drawn character studies. If Alfie Solomons survives Peaky Blinders season 6 and the Peaky Blinders movie, then the franchise can see a compelling continuation by exploring his character in more detail. The original intention for the main Peaky Blinders TV series was for it to begin at the end of WWI and run-up to the first air-raid siren of WWII. Whether the Peaky Blinders timeline stretches all the way to WWII or not, it would position their timeline perfectly to create a sequel series following Alfie Solomons’ response to fascism. The war could easily drive Alfie Solomons out of retirement as he returns to his life of organized crime where he can continue his work of supporting the British Jewish community in a Peaky Blinders spin-off.

It is entirely possible that Alfie Solomons might die before the Peaky Blinders movie wraps up. He has suffered from illness, tried to retire, and has a habit of getting into dangerous situations. However, even if Alfie Solomons’ final chapter is written in Peaky Blinders season 6 or the movie, there is still plenty of room to tell Alfie’s story before he met Tommy Shelby with an Alfie Solomons prequel spin-off. Little is known about Alfie before Peaky Blinders beyond the fact that he served in the First World War and that his mother was likely a Russian refugee. Breaking Bad has previously shown how such a prequel spin-off can be successful with the series Better Call Saul, which saw Bob Odenkirk return to play a younger version of his character, Saul Goodman, in his own origin story.

Of course, even if it appears that Alfie Solomons dies in Peaky Blinders season 6 or the movie, it is still possible that he might return for a sequel spin-off. At the end of Peaky Blinders season 4, Alfie pushed Tommy Shelby to shoot him and took a bullet in the face before being left presumably dead on a beach in Margate. However, Alfie returned at the end of Peaky Blinders season 5, revealing the bullet to have been non-fatal even though he lost the use of on eye and is now heavily scarred. The fact that Alfie Solomons could reasonably return from the dead in this way without the audience writing it off as incredulous simply proves that Alfie Solomons is the perfect character for a Peaky Blinders spin-off to keep the franchise alive.
