A new ad for HBO Max gives a first look at the upcoming Peacemaker TV show. John Cena debuted as Christopher Smith in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, which came to theaters and HBO Max in early August. The film introduced over a dozen new supervillains, most of which were killed off in the film's opening scene. Peacemaker was shown alive in the end-credits scene of The Suicide Squad after surviving a near-fatal shot to the throat from Bloodsport.

Before The Suicide Squad was even released, Gunn announced that he was working on a Peacemaker TV show because he got bored during the pandemic. The TV show will reveal the origin of Peacemaker while also showing what happened to the character after the events of The Suicide Squad. Cena will be joined by cast members like Steve Agee (John Economos from The Suicide Squad) and Danielle Brooks (Orange Is the New Black). Gunn has also revealed the show will have a surprise cameo from another Suicide Squad character. There have been a few images released of Peacemaker to keep fans anticipated for the show's release next year, but no actual footage has been shown until now.

HBO Max recently shared an ad that revealed new footage of their upcoming movies and TV shows, including Peacemaker. Cena's character can be seen sitting at a diner with the other cast members and shooting a variety of guns in a jungle. Check out the full video below:

2022 is quickly approaching, and many are already asking if Peacemaker season 2 will happen. That likely won't be announced until Warner Bros. sees how well season 1 does. However, with the popularity of The Suicide Squad and specifically Cena's character, the show getting a second season seems likely. That being said, with James Gunn working with Marvel on Guardians of the Galaxy 3, it could be a while before the director has time to write a second season if the studio were to greenlight it. While that is looking a little far ahead, DC fans will soon be getting eight weeks' worth of Peacemaker in January.

The above video includes footage from several different titles, so the amount of Peacemaker content is limited. That being said, with Peacemaker being in his tidy-whities in the opening shot and shooting a gun in between his legs towards the end of the video, it seems like the character will be just as vulgar as he was in The Suicide Squad. A previously released Peacemaker poster confirmed a sneak peek for DC FanDome, so even though this video didn't give away a whole lot of the show, the official trailer for the series could be released in little less than a month.
