John Cena's upcoming HBO Max series has had its first teaser released, and here’s what song plays in the Peacemaker trailer. The titular Peacemaker, aka, Christopher Smith, was a major character in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, played with breathtakingly comedic seriousness by John Cena. Peacemaker managed to survive the events of the film, and will now star in an HBO Max TV series.

Taking place after the events of The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker has been nursed back to health following his grievous injuries at the end of the film. Peacemaker will explore the origins and continuing missions of the jingoistic mercenary. In addition to introducing a new cast, and Christopher Smith’s father, played by Robert Patrick, Peacemaker will feature plenty of needle drops, as teased by the Peacemaker trailer song.

After revealing the new characters and premise of the upcoming series, the Peacemaker trailer song “Do You Want To Taste It?” by Wig Wam plays. The Peacemaker trailer song comes from their 2010 album Non Stop Rock'n Roll, and it lends a fast-paced, funny, and action-packed feel to the end of the Peacemaker trailer. Needle drops are a trademark for James Gunn so a catchy trailer song isn’t surprising, and more needle drops can be expected in the upcoming series.

John Cena in Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad

James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies were renowned for their soundtracks, mostly consisting of hits from the ‘60s and ‘70s. Gunn integrated them into the films, giving them sentimental value to the characters and making most of the songs diegetic. The Suicide Squad includes plenty of hits as well, using them dietetically and non- dietetically. In Harley Quinn’s violent escape from captivity, Louis Prima’s “Just A Gigolo / I Ain’t Got Nobody (And Nobody Cares For Me)” appears to be playing in Harley Quinn’s thoughts as she kills numerous Corto Maltese soldiers, making it a rare example of meta-dietetic music. How Gunn will use needle drops in Peacemaker remains to be seen, but the trailer song suggests a similar variety of uses.

“Do You Want To Taste It?” was played to a montage of comedic and action-packed moments, including Peacemaker dancing in his briefs and various fight scenes, some including the newcomer Adrian Chase, aka Vigilante, played by Freddie Stroma. Like the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, the trailer song may end up in the film as well. Using “Do You Want To Taste It?” as the Peacemaker trailer song helped set the tone for Gunn’s upcoming action-comedy series, and prepare viewers for more of his signature needle drops.
