Writer/director James Gunn reveals every episode of the upcoming DC Extended Universe series, Peacemaker, will have post-credits scenes. The highly anticipated series will take place directly after the events of Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, which was released earlier this year. As implied by its title, Peacemaker will see John Cena return as his “douchey version of Captain America after his performance in the flagship film established Christopher Smith as an interesting, yet largely unexplored character. The first three episodes of the series are currently slated to debut on HBO Max on January 13.

Following a seemingly fatal showdown with Bloodsport (Idris Elba) in The Suicide Squad, the film’s post-credits scene confirmed Peacemaker survived the events on Corto Maltese. The team working under Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), A.R.G.U.S. (Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans), recruited Peacemaker at the hospital to help them “Save the f***king world.” Now, several trailers and clips leading up to the release of Peacemaker have teased the team's dynamic as well as Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante. The series will also star Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Christopher Heyerdahl, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lochlyn Munro, Annie Chang, Elizabeth Faith Ludlow, and Rizwan Manji.

Recently, Gunn took to social media to confirm that all eight episodes of Peacemaker will feature “a little something special” for those who watch the credits. Being that Peacemaker is a comic-book series, fans had already theorized the show would feature credits scenes like its cinematic DCEU counterparts and Marvel Studios’ shows on Disney+. While credits scenes in movies have been the norm for quite some time, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and shows like WandaVision can largely be accredited with bringing them to the small screen in 2021. However, rarely does every episode contain a credits scene/something special, adding yet another unique element to Peacemaker. According to its creator, the series will explore real-world issues through the lens of a twisted anti-hero with serious Daddy issues while expanding that which Gunn began with The Suicide Squad.

Gunn famously helmed 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and 2017’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 before being briefly fired by Disney/Marvel Studios—which led to Gunn’s hiring by Warner Bros./DC Films. Gunn is currently hard at work on the final entry in his Marvel trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. That being said, the writer/director has teased that he may have even more DC spin-offs planned after the release of Peacemaker. So, there’s a good chance the series and/or credits scenes will hint at future storylines with new and returning characters that take place in DC’s “Gunn-Verse.”
