The official cuss counts for the characters in the Peacemaker premiere are in, revealing that John Cena's title character dropped the F-bomb over 100 times. The series is a spinoff from James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, which hit theaters and HBO Max on August 6, 2021. Because that film's release date was delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team had time to produce the entire series during quarantine, wrapping production in July 2021, which explains why the turnaround was so quick, allowing HBO Max to premiere the first three episodes of Peacemaker simultaneously on January 13, 2022.

Peacemaker follows the idealistic-to-the-point-of-violence weapons expert Christopher Smith a.k.a. Peacemaker (John Cena) during the events that follow The Suicide Squad. He is recruited for a new mission called Project Butterfly by members of A.R.G.U.S.: Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji), Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), John Economos (Steve Agee), and Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks). He also reluctantly teams up with busboy turned hero Vigilante (Freddie Stroma). The series was written by James Gunn, who also directed all three premiere episodes, imbuing them with his typical irreverent sense of humor.

On their official website, DC ranked the Peacemaker characters by how filthy their mouths were in the 3-episode premiere of the series. Between all the characters, the vulgarity was spread out rather evenly with 65 F-bombs in the first episode, 85 in the second, and 60 in the third. Peacemaker himself took the top prize with a staggering 104 F-bombs, followed by Harcourt with 23, Economos with 17, Vigilante with 16, Auggie with 13, Amber with 9, Evan with 8, Adebayo with 8, Murn with 5, and the rest dropped by various secondary characters.

DC also points out that 10 of these F-bombs have already been dropped before Peacemaker's dance party title credits roll. This is in addition to the legion of other four-letter words that are less potent for Peacemaker to throw around. The character may have come a long way since the events of The Suicide Squad, but he hasn't grown up even a little bit.

While Peacemaker is certainly not for kids, it has obviously committed to the sense of humor that Gunn previously gave to the character. DC has certainly let James Gunn take the reigns and lean in on the R-rating in a way that Marvel would never allow, which has created a very interesting blend between his ribald comedy instincts and his by now well-honed skills at telling comic book stories.
