James Gunn has revealed that he asked Peacemaker star Annie Chang to audition for two roles before she landed her place in the cast. Chang, who is known for her role in the Jennifer Lopez-led crime drama Shades of Blue, has recently made her DCEU debut in Gunn’s The Suicide Squad spinoff series, Peacemaker. Playing Detective Sophie Song, Chang’s character has been tenaciously investigating John Cena’s character after his father, Auggie (played by Robert Patrick), was cleared from being involved in a death that he was responsible for.

In the recent Peacemaker episode 6, however, Chang’s character found herself possessed by the alien “butterfly” which previously inhabited the body of US Senator Royland Goff. Most recently, Gunn, who is well known for engaging with his fans via social media, hosted a Peacemaker watch party via Twitter. Throughout this watch party, Gunn revealed that Chang had to audition for both roles, Sophie Song and the alien Goff, saying she was "great at both." Check out his original Tweet below.

As the leader of the alien invasion, it would seem clear that Chang will play a significant role in Peacemaker episode 7 and 8, and will need to draw heavily on her ability to play Goff for the remainder of the season. Given the scope of the butterflies’ infiltration on Earth, and that they now appear to have taken over an entire police department, Cena’s Peacemaker will certainly have his work cut out for him as he attempts to purge them from existence. With Chang’s Goff seemingly on a collision course with the hapless vigilante, DC fans certainly have a lot more to look forward to as Peacemaker continues to steam toward its top-secret and highly anticipated season finale on HBO Max.
