As production on HBO Max's Peacemaker winds down, actors like Danielle Brooks and Robert Patrick have officially wrapped. Next month sees the release of director James Gunn's first DCEU movie The Suicide Squad, which also serves as the debut of John Cena's order-obsessed Peacemaker. The helmeted "douchey Captain America" will be part of the large ensemble for the film, but he'll soon receive his own project with Peacemaker. The 8-episode series will premiere on HBO Max in January 2022, and it'll bring both Cena and Gunn back to the DCEU.

Plot specifics for Peacemaker are still being kept under wraps, including where it takes place within the DCEU timeline. The series is expected to delve into the character's origin story, though Gunn hasn't ruled out having it set after The Suicide Squad. In addition to Cena, two others from the movie are making the jump to Peacemaker: Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland. Beyond that, the series is comprised of DCEU newcomers, from Brooks and Patrick to Freddie Stroma and Chukwudi Iwuji. For the most part, details about their characters are being kept secret.

Gunn has kept fans updated on Peacemaker's production since the day it began, and he's been signaling that the end is near for a few days now. Over the weekend, Gunn revealed recent days have seen Brooks, Holland, Agee, and Iwuji wrap on the series. He then added that Patrick wrapped as well, and that "He has been a joy from start to finish." Meanwhile, the final day of Peacemaker filming is today, and it involves Cena and Stroma.

In discussing the final days of Peacemaker production, Gunn wrote that he loves "making a TV show. I love everything we’re doing with it. And I love making it with these people." Gunn previously said he might stick with television following this series, though he will have to head back to movies briefly later this year for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Still, it sounds like Peacemaker was a thrilling experience for all involved, which should hopefully translate to an awesome show. There's still so much to be uncovered about Peacemaker, but the new detail that Patrick is playing Cena's father adds a new layer of intrigue to the show.

With filming on Peacemaker just about done, one can hope new looks at the series will arrive in the coming months. They won't debut until after The Suicide Squad, but luckily that movie is just under a month away. As soon as Gunn sees fit to reveal more details about the show, he will. For now, fans can rest assured Peacemaker has reached a major milestone on its way to release, and now it's time for post-production to take hold.
