James Gunn reunites with some of the cast of Peacemaker after wrapping filming on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn is one of the most well-known and revered names in Marvel and DC superhero projects these days, writing and directing 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy and its 2017 sequel, as well as The Suicide Squad and its TV spinoff, Peacemaker. The director most recently finished filming on the series-ending Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, sharing the news on his Twitter account last week.
In addition to the post-production work that still remains on the third Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn is also slated to write and direct HBO Max's Peacemaker season 2, which was a big hit both in terms of critical reception and audience engagement. It's unclear when exactly Gunn will get back to work on the hit show, but he has already confirmed that Peacemaker season 2 will feature more big cameos. Peacemaker season 2 is expected to feature the return of John Cena as Christopher Smith/ Peacemaker, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
In a new post on Twitter, Gunn shares a sweet photo of him reunited with some of the members of the Peacemaker cast in Atlanta, including Holland, Stroma, and Brooks. The photo also includes Stroma's wife, actor Johanna Braddy, and Brooks' husband, Dennis. In the caption, Gunn explains that it's the last time he'll see the Peacemaker cast for a while, as he'll be busy editing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Check out Gunn's post below:

In addition to editing, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will also still need a lot of visual effects work to be completed, which Gunn is sure to oversee as well. While Peacemaker season 2 is definitely happening at HBO Max, it seems like Gunn will have his hands full for the foreseeable future getting the third Guardians of the Galaxy film across the finish line. He has previously explained that his future with Marvel is somewhat up in the air at the moment, meaning his next project following the completion of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may very well be Peacemaker season 2.
It remains to be seen what is in store for fans with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Peacemaker season 2, but Gunn has consistently proven himself to be one of the most surprising, out-of-the-box filmmakers working today. There's no firm Peacemaker season 2 release date, but this tweet certainly suggests it won't be going into production anytime soon. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to release on May 5 of next year and, hopefully, after Gunn has completed work on that film, fans will get a release window for Peacemaker season 2.
