The opening credits sequence of Peacemaker is already beloved, but season 2 won't be able to keep it intact. While writer/director James Gunn's 2021 film The Suicide Squad drew a lot of acclaim, it seems what the loose sequel to David Ayer's compromised 2016 movie is best remembered for might be the launching of John Cena as Peacemaker. Cena's stock in Hollywood has been steadily rising in recent years, but none of his past roles fit him nearly as well as that of Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker.

Cena was a lot of fun as Smith in The Suicide Squad, but with Peacemaker, he's been given far and away the best vehicle yet for his particular brand of skills. No one will ever mistake Cena for Daniel Day-Lewis, but he has great screen presence and excellent comic timing, with both serving Cena well in the Peacemaker role. Season 1 of Peacemaker has been a big hit with both critics and audiences, with many already hoping for a season 2 renewal. For his part, Gunn seems hopeful that will happen.

Oddly enough though, the part of Peacemaker most widely known at this point might be its hilarious opening credits sequence, which features the cast doing a tightly choreographed dance routine to the now-famous song "Do Ya Wanna Taste It?" by Wig Wam. Both the song and dance routine are great, and it's hard to imagine a Peacemaker episode without them. Unfortunately, if Peacemaker returns for season 2, keeping the opening credits sequence as is just isn't logically feasible.

Peacemaker Episode 6 John Cena Car

As great as Peacemaker's opening sequence is, keeping it for season 2 doesn't make sense. For one, it includes nearly every major character from season 1, several of which are now dead. With Peacemaker poised for a showdown with his father The White Dragon, it's quite likely even more characters won't survive to see a season 2. Having season 2's episodes open with a credits sequence featuring multiple dead characters audiences probably won't see again would be a strange choice indeed, and not in a fun kind of way.

Some Peacemaker devotees who love the Wig Wam-backed opening sequence might argue that Gunn, Cena, and company should simply reshoot it, but swapping out the departed characters for new ones. Yet, that would ring hollow and seem derivative. Peacemaker's opening credits sequence is one of the best on TV in recent memory, with everything about it working, from the robotic dance moves to the contrast of Cena with diminutive character Judomaster. Trying to reproduce that magic with a different mix of ingredients would be ill-advised. If Peacemaker season 2 happens after season 1's mysterious finale, and fans sure hope it does, it seems likely that both a new song and opening dance number will be kicking off each episode.
