Peacemaker is now the best-reviewed entry in the entire DCEU canon. The spin-off series of the 2021 film The Suicide Squad follows Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker (John Cena), as he teams up with a new black ops organization to take down a villainous threat known as Butterflies. The series premiered the first three episodes on HBO Max on January 13 and will continue to run a new episode every Thursday until the series wraps up on February 17.

The series has received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike since it premiered, with people like Kevin Smith and Goosebumps author R.L. Stine giving their praise for the series on social media. The show's opening credits, which feature the cast dancing to "Do You Wanna Taste It" by Wig Wam, has even become somewhat of a viral sensation. Showrunner James Gunn has teased the series could go on for more seasons, and based on the critical reaction to the series, Warner Bros. and HBO Max will more than likely order some more Peacemaker soon.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Peacemaker is the highest reviewed entry in the DCEU. The series has a 94% rating. That beats 2017's Wonder Woman, which had previously held the record with 93%. Gunn's other DCEU project, The Suicide Squad, ranks at number three with 90% followed by Shazam! at fourth and Birds of Prey rounding out the top five. The bottom of the list consists of two 2016 DCEU entries, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice with 27% and the original Suicide Squad with 26%.

Peacemaker proved DCEU Continuity is dead

Even compared against DC properties that aren't in the DCEU, the show's performance is impressive. Peacemaker ranks number third behind only Doom Patrol with 97% and Watchmen with 96%. All three of the top-rated DC television series are HBO-related series, suggesting a promising result for other upcoming series the network has planned, including various shows focused on various Green Lanterns, John Constantine, and Madame Xanadu. The positive reception also helps build anticipation for James Gunn's next DC television series, although it is unclear who the series will be focused on.

While the choice to spin off a character as obscure as Peacemaker seemed like an odd one for the DCEU, made even more questionable after The Suicide Squad underperformed at the box office, it appears to have paid off. The DCEU has reinvented itself drastically since the debacle of the Justice League reshoots with a variety of projects that showcase very different, unique voices from creators highlighting a batch of new characters and ideas from the vast catalog of the DC Universe. Now even more eyes will be on upcoming DCEU projects like Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to see if they can take the best-reviewed spot from Peacemaker.
