Warning! Spoilers for Suicide Squad: Blaze #2 by DC Comics

In a dark ending he deserved based on his actions in The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker just met his end at the hands of a mega-powered villain. In Suicide Squad: Blaze #2 by DC ComicsPeacemaker is part of a Task Force X team leading a group of powerful recruits heading into one of their most dangerous missions yet. However, his unexpected death proves that, as Rick Flagg told him in the DCEU film, Peacemaker is a joke.

Peacemaker, aka Christopher Smith, first debuted in Fighting 5 #40 from Charlton Comics by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette. The antihero doesn't have any superpowers but is highly skilled in combat and a top-tier marksman. After being acquired by DC Comics (and almost being used in Watchmen), Peacemaker, who would do anything, including murder, to achieve his definition of peace, would serve as a vigilante, often bloodying his hands to accomplish his ultimate goal. The character would be a main member of 2021's The Suicide Squad in the DCEU from James Gunn and the HBO Max spinoff series Peacemaker, where John Cena plays him.

In Suicide Squad: Blaze #2 by Simon Spurrier, Aaron Campbell, Jordie Bellaire, and Aditya Bidikar from DC Comics, the clock is ticking as the Suicide Squad leads the Blaze-powered recruits into action. Unfortunately, the cannibalistic villain who has even taken Superman immediately proves to be too powerful for the squad to handle. Their first attempt leads to the deaths of Captain Boomerang and a recruit, while their second attempt has them follow a defeated Justice League against The Blaze. On the second mission, Amanda Waller tasks the Suicide Squad with retrieving a data sample of the elusive villain. But, after Peacemaker takes a single pubic hair from the creature, he's immediately killed.

Peacemaker Death Suicide Squad Blaze

As he dies, Peacemaker tries to say something memorable but only gurgles his words before breathing his last breath. Peacemaker goes down as a joke that Rick Flagg referred to him before his own death in The Suicide Squad, as he brashly brags about stealing the pubic hair before being brutally killed, essentially choking on his own words as he dies.

While Peacemaker has found redemption in his own DCEU series, his actions in The Suicide Squad prove that eventually, the character will get a dark ending of his own. While the version of Peacemaker is different in Suicide Squad: Blaze #2 by DC Comics, it's still somewhat poetic that he dies as a joke in the comic. It's a deserved dark ending for a 'hero.'
