According to James Gunn, a character from Peacemaker will appear in another DCEU project. The spin-off series to The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, premiered its first three episodes on HBO Max on January 14, 2022, and has earned rave reviews from critics and audiences. Peacemaker marks the first television series set in the DCEU, with more to come in the future to expand the universe and introduce more characters.
In addition to Peacemaker, the series has already introduced Vigilante (Freddie Stroma) and Judomaster (Nhut Le) into the DCEU. The series has also mixed Peacemaker's father from the comics with the villain The White Dragon, an obscure white supremacist super villain from the comics. With five more episodes left, it is entirely possible more characters from DC Comics and possibly other DCEU characters like members of The Suicide Squad could appear.
While Peacemaker is still in the DCEU, the series style is distinctly very different from many of the other projects, which suggested the characters of the series would likely stay in their own little corner of the universe. Gunn recently appeared on TV's Top 5 podcast with The Hollywood Reporter and said that a character from the show would appear in an upcoming DCEU project but did not specify which character or what project. He said that DC could use any of the other characters and play out similar to how Marvel incorporated The Guardians of the Galaxy into Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Gunn said:
"It is part of the DCU, I mean they can use these characters... I mean one of these characters, which people have kind of figured out, one of these characters is used in a future big DC movie that's from here. So we are connected to all of this... who knows what role these characters are going to play in the future? I mean no one knew who the Guardians of the Galaxy were, and then all of a sudden they're massive players in [Avengers:] Infinity War and [Avengers:] Endgame. So who knows what's going to happen with Peacemaker in ten years, five years, or whatever."
The most obvious answer is Peacemaker himself, which given the history of the character in the comics with Blue Beetle in the Pre-New 52 run, could mean a cameo appearance in the upcoming Blue Beetle movie. However, given the teenage-centric lead of that film, it could be unlikely that DC and WB want to feature a character who is prominently part of an R-rated property. Even if it isn't Peacemaker, there are still several films and television shows in development and a world of possibilities the other characters could appear in.
Both The Justice Society., who will appear in Black Adam, and the Birds of Prey have featured the Sonia Sato incarnation of Judomaster, so the version introduced in Peacemaker could appear later to set up the introduction of a new Judomaster. ARGUS is a major government organization in the pages of DC Comics, and the organization could be featured in any of the upcoming projects like Black Adam, The Flash, or Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, lending to a possible appearance by characters like Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) and John Economos (Steve Agee) who were featured in The Suicide Squad or newcomers Leota Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) and Clemson Murn (Chukwudi Iwuji).
The series may have already given a clue to a wider connection to the DCEU. The series threat appears to be a creature that controls a human host called butterflies, named after their appearance. The mind-controlling aspect of them, in addition to the insect connection, hints that this is connected to the evil genius caterpillar Mr. Mind, who was hinted at in the end credits of Shazam!. Mr. Mind is not expected to appear in the upcoming film Shazam! Fury of the Gods, possibly because the character is the primary villain of Peacemaker, but may be referenced by one of the characters in the upcoming Shazam! sequel.
