Jason Momoa seemingly can't handle being asked about the fish joke made at Aquaman's expense at the end of the Peacemaker finale without bursting into laughter. Momoa made his superhero debut as the nautical warrior in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, reprising the role again for the ensemble-driven Justice League before starring in his standalone film Aquaman. A sequel, titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is set to be released later this year, but that didn't stop the character from making a surprise cameo appearance, along with other Justice League colleagues, during the final moments of the HBO Max series earlier this year.

Created as a spinoff from his 2021 action-comedy The Suicide Squad, James Gunn's Peacemaker saw the return of the titular jingoistic antihero (played by John Cena). In the show, Peacemaker attempted to defeat a parasitic alien species after being forcibly recruited to the A.R.G.U.S. black ops squad "Project Butterfly." The team ultimately successfully defeats the dreaded alien parasites, but not without casualties, and many of them require medical treatment for their injuries. As the group leaves the battleground, the Justice League appears on the scene, having arrived too late, much to Peacemaker's annoyance. The helmeted hero offers an additional put-down to Aquaman, telling him to "Go f*ck another fish, asshole!", leaving Momoa's character to complain to The Flash (Ezra Miller) about how sick he is of hearing that rumor.

But whereas Aquaman can't stand the implication that he has a more-than-professional intimacy with his aquatic comrades, it's evident that Momoa himself absolutely loves the joke. Catching the actor at the premiere for The Batman, ComicBook.com shared on Twitter the moment when they cheekily asked Momoa, "What kind of fish was it?". Momoa then proceeds to burst-out laughing, commenting, "What? Get outta here!" before returning to the interviewer, later on, to praise him on his choice of question. Check out the full video below:

Momoa has been a fan of the joke ever since Gunn first came to him with it before the show had even started shooting. However, his surprise cameo with the rest of the Justice League has also been met with some controversy among the DCEU's fanbase. Along with Momoa and Miller being the only actors to portray their characters (silhouetted stand-ins played Henry Cavill's Superman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman), the scene also drew criticism for not featuring Ben Affleck's Batman or Ray Fisher's Cyborg.

Although Momoa's keenness for the joke at the expense of his character is no secret, his inability to control himself when reminded of it in interviews will likely add further flavor to the humor for many fans. It's always welcome when actors don't take their roles too seriously, and it certainly provides an amusingly weird extra level of context going into Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. But now that Peacemaker season 2 has been confirmed, it may be that some devotees of the series will be wondering whether Aquaman will ever make another cameo appearance in the show to lay the hilarious rumor to rest finally. Given Momoa's evident love for the joke, that may be a possibility.
