This summer, ReedPop and Penny Arcade will host PAX Online 2021 in place of the canceled PAX East 2021; the digital-only event will run from July 15 to July 18. PAX organizers previously intended to move forward with the gathering from June 3 to June 6 at the Boston Convention Center. However, ongoing health concerns related to coronavirus have put a pin in ReedPop's and Penny Arcade's live event plans.

PAX Online 2021 will last from July 15 to July 18 in place of PAX East 2021, ReedPop and Penny Arcade announced today. Specifics aren't set in stone as of yet, but more information about the digital event should surface in the months ahead. Such a development is in response to ongoing health-related concerns, though the organizers feel "cautiously optimistic" about PAX West and PAX Unplugged due to the United States' latest efforts on managing the coronavirus crisis. As such, in-person gatherings for PAX West remain slated for September 3 to September 6, while PAX Unplugged's on-site event is on for December 10 through December 12. PAX East's live festivities are expected to return to Boston in 2022.

Apparently, the PAX organizers aren't the only ones rethinking previously outlined summer event plans. There's reason to believe the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) will also cancel E3 2021's on-site gathering in Los Angeles. While the ESA remains mum on the matter, documents filed by the Board of Los Angeles Convention and Tourism indicate that E3's live event will be axed for the second year in a row.
