Few character actors throughout the history of film and television have been as beloved as Patton Oswalt. Whether he's showing up in a recurring capacity on The King of Queens or just lending his instantly-recognizable voice to a number of animated properties, Oswalt is always a welcome contributor to the best stories being told today: comedy or otherwise.

Oswalt has had his toes in a number of projects over the years. From Disney films to cult classics to family sitcoms and beyond, there's no way Patton Oswalt has not been in something that is beloved by someone. The man has legitimate range! As funny a stand-up as he is an actor, these are Patton Oswalt's highest rated roles on IMDB.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return - 8.0

Patton Oswalt, ever the aficionado of geek culture, was a leading champion behind the Netflix revival of Mystery Science Theater 3000. He wasn't one of the sci-fi creatures cracking jokes at the screen, though.

Instead, Oswalt played Max (or, TV's Son of TV's Frank) on the two Netflix seasons from a few years ago during the bumper segments. Partnered with Felicia Day, he was always delightful.

Ratatouille - 8.0

Ratatouille Remy

Many people might not know that Patton Oswalt was the lead in a Pixar film, but for those who know, it makes Ratatouille all the more savory. Voicing Remy, Oswalt was the anchor of one of the finest Pixar movies of all-time.

It's even one of the finest animated movies of all-time! Quite frankly, the IMDB users underrate it. Ratatouille is amazing and Oswalt's vocal talents helped make it that way.

Magnolia - 8.0

Paul Thomas Anderson's 1999 opus, Magnolia, was filled with an incredible ensemble cast that included Tom Cruise, Julianne Moore, and William H. Macy. It also featured Patton Oswalt in the role of Delmer Darion.

Oswalt hardly features in Magnolia all that heavily, but it's still one of his earliest roles of significance. As the blackjack dealer in the film, Oswalt was well-suited to the PTA recipe.

The Goldbergs - 8.1

The Goldbergs Season 6 Cast

Most of the time, when Oswalt pops up on a show, it's just in a cameo or guest spot capacity. (That's why this list was limited to recurring roles, at a minimum.) However, he's had a stable job as the narrator of The Goldbergs since 2013.

Oswalt plays the voice of Adam Goldberg grown up, in a similar capacity to Bob Saget portraying older Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother. Oswalt's dulcet tones always set the tone perfectly for The Goldbergs and its bouts of '80s nostalgia.

Happy! - 8.2

Christopher Meloni lookin at a blue flurry in Happy! SYFY Season 1

Happy! is probably the least known series on this list, but IMDB users absolutely adore it apparently. Happy! was a Syfy series starring Christopher Meloni that ran for just two seasons from 2017 to 2019.

On this show, which was based on a comic book, Oswalt portrayed the character of Happy, an imaginary friend/unicorn who can fly and talk. Obviously, it was an vocal performance for an animated character, but Oswalt still could've contorted himself into unicorn shape. That's how talented he is.

Veep - 8.3

The bench on Veep was exceedingly deep, with extra actors and ringers thrown in during the later seasons, even when the main cast was so talented and sprawling already. Oswalt, thankfully, was one of these players.

On eleven episodes of Veep, the acclaimed HBO comedy, Oswalt portrayed Teddy Sykes. Considering the allegations Sykes later faces, it's one of the more daring Oswalt roles.

Veronica Mars - 8.3

When Veronica Mars was revived for Hulu in 2019, it was cool to see the whole gang back together. But it was also fun to welcome in some new faces, including Patton Oswalt's!

On Veronica Mars for the fourth season, Oswalt appeared in all eight episodes as Penn Epner (a great name). His role was an opportunistic bombing victim, which allowed Oswalt to chew the scenery quite a bit.

Archer - 8.6

This is one of Oswalt's sparser recurring roles, but it should definitely still count. For six episodes of Archer, Patton Oswalt brought Alan Shapiro, an attorney, to life.

He appears in the seventh season as a somewhat mysterious, but altogether imposing figure. Granted, the character design looked like a blend of Oswalt and Jason Alexander, but it still injected some patented Patton paths for the show to venture down.

Justified - 8.6

Oswalt also had a recurring arc (also of six episodes, like Archer) on Justified, showing that he could flex some dramatic chops, too. Even if the tone of Justified was not always moribund and morose.

Oswalt fit right in as Constable Bob Sweeney on Justified. Sweeney has gone down as one of the show's more memorable perimeter players. That credit is owed to Oswalt's performance.

BoJack Horseman - 8.7

Lastly, according to the users of IMDB, BoJack Horseman is the greatest show or film that Patton Oswalt has had a major role in. Of course, BoJack was the story of a has-been, alcoholic horse on the road to recovery. It garnered much acclaim over its six-season Netflix run.

Oswalt was a major player on the show. His primary character, Pinky Penguin, the publisher, appears from the get-go of the series and recurs throughout. However, Oswalt was also game to provide additional voices for the series whenever they needed them, similar to Alison Brie and Paul F. Tompkins. Oswalt always nailed the characters, though, because who would expect anything less?
