WARNING: Major spoilers for Partner Track aheadPartner Track star Dominic Sherwood discusses what he'd like to see for Jeff in a potential season 2. Placing the character of Ingrid Yun (played by Teen Wolf alum Arden Cho) at its center, the Netflix drama examines what young and ambitious professionals would do to succeed at the prestigious Manhattan law firm of Parsons Valentine & Hunt. Sherwood's character, Jeff Murphy, is no exception. Although he has his moments of being a loving and supportive boyfriend to Ingrid, the finale pulls off a surprising betrayal.

At its conclusion, Partner Track finds that Ingrid has betrayed her friend and charged ahead with the hopes of finally making partner. Though she assumes she doesn't get the job due to racial bias from her boss, it's revealed that Ingrid was passed over for the promotion because the law firm learns of Ingrid's wrongful arrest that she tried to keep hidden. In the episode's closing moments, she learns that it's Jeff who exposed her secret.

Sherwood, who recently starred in Eraser: Reborn, spoke to EW about Jeff's betrayal and what he hopes to see for his character if Partner Track gets renewed for season 2. The actor says he'd like to dig into Jeff's past, with his dad being gone, and explore why Jeff's mother is spoken of in the past tense. He notes that these aspects would help him develop a better understanding and a richer portrayal. Sherwood's quote is included below:

There are a bunch of things I would like to explore about Jeff. His past is a big one; his dad is gone, and he talks about his mother in the past tense quite a lot, so I would like to find out what happened to them. I want to know what’s going on and where his sisters are. That would be a big one for me, to develop a little more understanding of who he is.

Sherwood's comments match up with the explanation of Jeff's Partner Track finale betrayal from co-showrunner Georgia Lee, which said that the twist came partly from a desire to embrace the character's complexity, as opposed to just making him likable. She also noted that if the series returns, there would be more room to delve into Jeff's humanity. Certainly, a big part of that, if not the biggest, would be to show the character's family life. And as Sherwood himself says, it's not to excuse what Jeff has done, but simply to shed light on why it might have happened.

Partner Track season 2 has not been confirmed, although Netflix executive Jinny Howe recently gave a positive update about its status. The exec said there were already conversations about how to move forward in terms of the story and mentioned she was happy with how the first batch of episodes went. If the legal drama does come back for more, there will be no shortage of conflict, but it sounds like there are plans to delve a little more into the histories of the characters.
