As much as fans adored Parks and Recreation, the series ran its course after seven seasons. Viewers watched Leslie Knope grow as both a person and as a government employee, as those around her supported her every move. Although Leslie was beyond prepared for daily stressors and tasks, things didn't always go perfectly.

Most episodes had a small plot twist that either changed the course of the episode or for the series as a whole. But not every twist translated well from the writers' room to the small screen. Which twists did fans love? And which had them shaking their heads?

Best: Ben Proposing

Ben proposes to Leslie in Parks and Recreation

When Ben was asked to work on another campaign in DC and later in Florida, fans were unsure of his future with Leslie. They were both doing what they loved and yet were miles apart. Neither were willing to give up their careers for the other person, and why should they have to? But in a surprise twist, Ben came home early and shocked Leslie in the rental home they were looking at. Not only did he quit his job to be closer to her but he dropped down on one knee and proposed.

Worst: Ann & Chris Moving To Michigan

Why, oh why, did Ann decide to move away from Pawnee? Knowing how close she and Leslie were, it was sad to imagine Parks and Recreation changing this much. With Ann no longer around, this meant fans were never going to see her baby, Leslie as an aunt, or Chris Traeger in City Hall.

Ann and Chris leaving Pawnee was a huge twist in the show. Sure, it made sense for their characters, but that doesn't mean fans were happy about it. Chris's positive outlook and Ann's new journey would be missed.

Best: Jerry Becoming Mayor

Mayor-Jerry - parks and rec

Jerry has been the butt of the joke throughout the entire show. As sweet, smart, and helpful as Jerry is, no one in the Parks and Rec. Department respects him. However, this all changed in the seventh season when the mayor of Pawnee dies unexpectedly. Jerry was then hired as interim mayor. Once the show fasts forward a couple of years, fans find out that Jerry was later nominated as mayor and stayed in his position for multiple terms. No one thought Jerry would have a happy ending, so it was a nice twist for fans — and Jerry.

Worst: Andy Getting Denied From The Police Academy

Andy Dwyer could play the guitar, he was a great singer, he was okay at shoe-shining... But after years of watching him slowly — so slowly — find himself, he realized joining the police academy was the next best step for him.

After all, he was a bodyguard for Leslie's campaign run and he portrayed Burt Macklin when role-playing with April; joining the police force was the next best step, and fans were proud of Andy. Sadly, the rug was pulled from under us when Andy didn't pass the in-person interview for the academy. That was a twist no fan saw coming and we genuinely felt like Andy was ripped off.

Best: Ron Finding Love Again

Ron and Diane Swanson on Parks and Rec

After two failed marriages to women named Tammy, fans assumed Ron was happy living alone and going to his cabin in the woods every weekend. He's one man who seemed satisfied with his own company and wasn't looking for love...That is until he met Diane.

After meeting her, fans were shocked Ron was capable of falling in love with a normal woman. Not to mention, her name wasn't Tammy! The plot was twisted yet again when viewers found out that he wasn't just getting married on a whim, he was also going to be a dad.

Worst: April Not Going To Veterinary School

Similar to Andy, April also didn't know what she wanted to do with her future. She didn't love working in the Parks Department but she felt comfortable there. She didn't act like it, but she obviously loved her co-workers. This is why when she announced that she wanted to try veterinary school, fans were proud of her for doing some soul searching. However, that pride landed in the gutter when April made Ann drive her all the way to visit the school only for her to hate everything and change her mind. After that, she was back at square one.

Best: Ben Quitting So He Could Start A Relationship With Leslie

Ben and Leslie's wedding in Parks and Recreation

When Ben and Leslie decided to put their relationship ahead of their jobs, fans weren't sure what was going to happen. Chris Traeger launched a full investigation into their relationship since it was against policy, but he found no wrong-doing.

The biggest twist of all is when Leslie found out that Ben quit in order for her to keep her job. After all, Leslie loved her career, was dedicated to Pawnee, and worked there longer than Ben. It only made sense. Now that Ben was no longer a government employee, the two were allowed to date openly.

Worst: Leslie Getting Dropped From Her Campaign Managers

Speaking of Leslie and Ben's relationship, it was a sad day when Leslie's campaign managers dropped her. They didn't want to support a city council hopeful who had skeletons in their closet. And as clean as Leslie was, she was in a secret relationship with Ben, which could ruin her campaign. Leslie was at a loss and fans weren't sure what her future would look like. Thankfully, Leslie got lucky when her friends and employees said they would help her run.

Best: Tom Finally Leaving The Parks Department

Tom Haverford in Parks and Recreation

As soon as fans met Tom Haverford, they knew he wasn't going to last long in the Pawnee Parks and Rec. Department. He didn't like his job, he didn't do it well, and he was too busy trying to start his own businesses to really care about the city of Pawnee. Quite frankly, he should have been fired years ago, but it wasn't until he quit in season 3 to start Entertainment 720 that he finally found his footing.

Tom grew up a lot and realized what he needed to do to create a successful business. He failed along the way, sure, but he also grew as a man. This is one aspect of Tom's personality that fans didn't think they'd see.

Worst: April Getting Pregnant

April giving death in Parks and Recreation

Fans had their jaws on the ground when it was revealed that April Ludgate and Andy Dwyer were expecting a baby. For starters, they didn't seem like a couple who even wanted kids. And although they were growing as individuals in the workforce, they weren't the most responsible of people — viewers witnessed them eating chili of a frisbee... It would have been nicer to see April and Andy happily fulfilled in their careers than focus on a newborn.
