'Paranormal Activity 2' is Going IMAX

Paranormal Activity 2 Teaser Trailer Frame

Because you demanded it (get it?) Paranormal Activity 2 is going to be hitting IMAX theaters when it's released at the end of this month.

What's that you ask? Why is Paranormal Activity 2 going IMAX? Silly question, my friend: nothing recreates the feeling of being home alone in the dark like the intimate, body-to-body confines of an enormous IMAX theater.

If you're thinking is all a joke, well you can stop right there because we have the official press release from IMAX about this upcoming major movie release on the big-big screen. Check it out below:

“Paramount has delivered another great movie that we believe will really resonate with IMAX fans,” said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “The growth of our digital theatre network has allowed us greater flexibility in programming, and we’re very pleased to bring this highly anticipated sequel to the ever-increasing IMAX audience.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Paramount Pictures for Paranormal Activity 2, a film that will be a terrifying treat for IMAX audiences,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “We look forward to sharing the next installment of this highly anticipated movie for a limited two-week run that includes the Halloween weekend.”

Of course it's obvious why this movie that was shot in home footage style is getting an IMAX release - they didn't have time for post-conversion 3D! (Zing!) There are only so many ways in which one can inflate a movie ticket's price; you have to go with the option that suits your movie best.

Let me be the first to say: I'm not usually one to be judgmental of other moviegoers' choices, but in this case, if and when I see people waiting in long lines outside my local IMAX theater for Paranormal Activity 2, I'm going to use the massive difference between their ticket price and my ticket price to buy myself a kid-size popcorn before I head into my showing of Life As We Know It. And I'll be laughing the whole way (until I choke on a popcorn kernel).

In any event, if you haven't seen the Paranormal Activity 2 trailer, give it a watch and let us know whether you'll be seeing this film in IMAX or not.
