Nickelodeon fans, it's time to rejoice: a Rugrats reboot is coming to Paramount Picture's new streaming service, Paramount Plus, in 2021. The original series ran on Nickelodeon from 1991-2004 and inspired multiple spinoffs and movies. Anyone who grew up in the '90s knows what a big deal this reboot will be. Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, and Phil and Lil DeVille took viewers on adventure after adventure, and fans can't wait to see what these babies get themselves into in 2021.

Once the trailer hit social media, longtime fans of Rugrats took to Twitter to express their opinions and concerns on the new series. With something as beloved as Rugrats, it has to be done with the utmost respect. Until the series drops, fans will continue picking apart the trailer for clues.

The 3D Animation Is Questionable

The original Rugrats cartoon was done in 2D animation. Cartoons done in 3D make the screen come to life and add more layers to the scene. It's almost like the scene comes to life because the textures look so real.

The new Rugrats reboot is done in 3D, but it doesn't look like every fan is on-board with the change. Some wish it was done in 2D to make the series feel more like the original.

Another Streaming Service?!

Paramount Plus is actually the revamped version of CBS All Access. There's a new name, new logo, new pricing, and new shows, according to Variety. Aside from Rugrats, there will be over 30,000 TV shows streamers can watch, along with live-sports and movies.

It's Time For Something New

It feels like there are reboots and revamps of every cherished TV show or movie. Disney is on track adding live-action movies to follow their original cartoon classics and it looks like Nickelodeon is following suit with older cartoons.

There are some fans, however, who are bored with the reboots. Why can't a brand as large as Nickelodeon create a new show for fans to become attached to? As one Twitter user said, "Why can't we have new things?"

Babies To Teenagers To Babies Again

The cast of Rugrats The Movie

After the success of Rugrats and the Rugrats movies, Nickelodeon released a spinoff called All Grown Up!. The show focused on all of the babies as teenagers in middle school, learning to find their way in an adult world. Even as teens, the gang still lwent on adventures, which was a huge point in the original series. All Grown Up! lasted for five seasons.

Because of the spinoff, some fans are a little confused as to why Nickelodeon chose to turn the Rugrats teens into babies again. However, the entire point of the reboot is revamping the original series, in which the main characters were babies.

The CG Makes The Babies Look Like Those In The Puffs Commercial

Rugrats and puffs commercial crossover

Now that the babies are no longer in 2D, their 3D versions have them looking similar to the characters in the Puffs Plus Lotion commercial. From their pointed noses to their large eyes, those shown in the Puffs commercial could fit right in with the Rugrats reboot. The new 3D features on our favorite babies make them look different from the adorable characters fans met in the '90s.

The Original Voice Actors Will Help Tremendously

Although the time frame and the babies' looks have fans a little concerned about the reboot, the one thing that helps the show look attractive is having the original voice actors back.

E.G. Daily (Tommy Pickles), Cheryl Chase (Angelica Pickles), Kath Soucie (Phil and Lil), Nancy Cartwright (Chuckie Finster), and Cree Summer (Susie Carmichael) will all be back, voicing our favorite babies. This can make the adaptation a little more close to home for '90s fans.

The OG Cast Is Encouraging

Reboots can be dangerous territory because networks try to make too many changes sometimes. It can come off as more than a reboot and can feel like an entirely different show with the same characters. Luckily, it looks like the Rugrats reboot will have the original cast back. From the trailer alone, Tommy's younger brother Dil Pickles and Chuckie's sister Kimi Finster are not shown. This could mean that the show is focusing on the time period before Dil and Kimi came into their lives.

Will The Show Resonate With Those Who Didn't Grow Up In The '90s?

Reptar in rugrats reboot

It's hard to tell if the reboot will resonate with new fans or streamers on Paramount Plus. Will a series about talking cartoon babies going on fictional adventures be liked by those not born in the '90s?

Another fan took to Twitter and noted that fans born outside of the '90s might not find it as entertaining or likable as the original fan group. This could affect Paramounts viewership and subscriptions.

Does The Show Look "Cheap?"

Susie and the twins in the rugrats reboot

Nickelodeon fans are torn on the 3D animation. Some find it promising and current while others think it looks lazy and cheap. One fan even mentioned that the cheap-looking CG could be because of Nickelodeon's parent company, ViacomCBS, running low on funds.

Perhaps this new streaming service and the reboot of one of Nickelodeon's beloved cartoons can save the flailing company.

Will It Be A "Kamp Koral" Disaster?

Fans of SpongeBob SquarePants may be excited to see Nickelodeon's spinoff Kamp Koral (Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years) that's also releasing on Paramount Plus in March of 2021. Similar to the Rugrats reboot, some fans loathe the 3D version of their favorite characters. Kamp Koral is done in the same CG format as the Rugrats reboot, but Rugrats looks a little more polished than Kamp Koral.

However, time will tell when fans see more than just the trailer. Until then, all fans can do is compare the two upcoming reboots.
