Here's all the new content to expect from the Paramount Plus streaming service. In the afterglow of Netflix's world domination, every major player in the movie and TV business is clamoring for a piece of the streaming pie. Amazon Prime has made big moves, Disney+ is enjoying huge success with its Star Wars and MCU content, and HBO Max will stream every Warner Bros. cinematic release in 2021 simultaneously with theaters. Hollywood was already leaning increasingly towards the streaming model, but the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically accelerated that trend.

Launched in 2014, ViacomCBS' entrant in the streaming arena was previously CBS All Access. The platform has effectively been upheld by its original Star Trek content - Star Trek: DiscoveryStar Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Lower Decks - as well as complete box sets of classics such as Cheers and Twin Peaks pulled from the library. ViacomCBS has now announced that the platform will rebrand as Paramount Plus from March 4 2021. As well as more content from the archives, Paramount Plus will see a renewed focus on original material, and theatrical releases will hit the subscription service mere weeks after cinemas. These are the upcoming new movies and TV shows announced for Paramount Plus:

As rivals continue to enhance their catalogs of material and strike gold with The Mandalorian or Bridgerton, it makes sense for CBS All Access to level up. The platform was originally very reliant on Star Trek for drawing new eyes, and while the sci-fi franchise will still play a big role on Paramount Plus, the new lineup is far more wide-ranging, with fans already excited for the returns of Frasier and Rugrats, as long as the eagerly-awaited Halo TV series. With so many big names to back the relaunch, the streaming wars may have a major new contender when Paramount Plus gets into full swing.

One of the biggest headlines is Paramount's decision to drop blockbuster tentpoles on its new service so soon after the theatrical window. Cinema chains will undoubtedly argue that the non-existent gap will deter movie fans from going to the cinema when getting a Paramount Plus subscription offers the most high-profile movies so quickly. With Warner Bros. releasing its 2021 output simultaneously, however, Paramount Plus is at least throwing theaters a partial lifeline, and the strategy may be reviewed once coronavirus restrictions are safely lifted across the world. What are you most looking forward to from the Paramount Plus roster?
