The fifth-oldest surviving film studio in the world (and the second oldest in the United States) is none other than Paramount Pictures. This film corporation has produced and distributed multiple big-name films under the banners of franchises like Star Trek, Indiana Jones, and even Marvel. We're here today to take a look at all that has come out of Paramount and rank each film by its box office performance.

We'll be using data from Box Office Mojo, and while we will be mentioning each film's worldwide gross, we'll be stacking the films based on their domestic performance at the time of their first release.

Star Trek

2009's Star Trek reboot had a domestic box office score of $257 million. The space film also launched its way to $385 million worldwide.

Although this Star Trek is the 11th film in the series of the same name, it serves as a reboot and has a new cast taking on the roles of familiar characters. Actors Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto take on the roles of James T. Kirk and Spock respectively.

The film was followed by direct sequels in 2013 (Star Trek Into Darkness) and 2016 (Star Trek Beyond). A third sequel is still a big possibility.

Iron Man 2

Disney announced their deal to acquire Marvel entertainment on Aug. 31, 2009. While Iron Man 2 came out in 2010, this film as well as Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger were distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Iron Man 2 rescued $312 million from the domestic box office and $623 million worldwide. If you can't tell by the recent record-breaking numbers, Marvel films know how to perform even better these days. That being said, Iron Man 2 still solidly developed Tony Stark as a character as he deals with the pressures to share his technology with the military.

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

The fourth Indiana Jones installment, released in 2008, adventured its way to $317 million at the domestic box office and $786 million worldwide. It once again starred Harrison Ford, despite the film being released nineteen years after its predecessor.

Indy is back in action, and this time, he is searching for a telepathic crystal skull. His former love Marion Ravenwood and her son Mutt Williams comes along for the adventure.

With the rights of the franchise now in Disney's hands, the next installment in the series is scheduled to premiere on July 9, 2021.

Iron Man

The original Iron Man was released in 2008 before the Disney merger, giving Paramount all the recognition at the time. It took in $318 million at the domestic box office and $585 million worldwide.

The film follows Tony Stark as a billionaire inventor. Once he is captured by terrorists overseas, he is tasked to create a deadly weapon. However, Stark instead builds his Iron Man suit and works his way out, fighting crime in the process.

Transformers

The original Transformers brought in $319 million at the domestic box office. It doubled that number worldwide, ultimately receiving a $709 million box office score.

The 2007 action film follows two races of robots who bring their war to Earth. With the ability to change into various vehicles, these creatures work hard to dominate, coming in contact with humans' various agendas in the process.

Shrek The Third

Never underestimate a Shrek film. The third installment in the animated fantasy-comedy series about ogres and fairytale characters brought in $322 million at the domestic box office and $798 million worldwide.

Shrek 3 sees Prince Charming attempting to overthrow Shrek and Fiona from the thrones they inherit after King Harold's death. Meanwhile, Shrek tries to convince Fiona's teenage cousin Artie to take reign instead, being that he is an ogre and therefore unfit to rule.

The film produced lots of great jokes and Donkey moments (which of course, we're always happy to have).

Forrest Gump

Starring Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump tells the story of a dim-witted yet kind man who finds himself in the middle of the most influential events of the 20th centuries in U.S. history. Meanwhile, he works hard and pushes forward in hopes that someday the love of his life will return to him.

The movie was generally praised at the time of its release and has been regarded for its cultural significance. This designation has put it into preservation as part of the United States National Film Registry. It brought in around $330 million domestically and $678 million worldwide.

Transformers: Dark Of The Moon

The third film in the Transformers series took in $352 million at the domestic box office. Its gross became a whopping $1.1 billion after being released worldwide.

Humans Sam and Carly are pulled into another fight when the Decepticons and Autobots are pulled into another war. Optimus Prime determines that resurrecting the robot Sentinel Prime will help lead them to victory, but there are multiple obstacles that will make getting there a challenge.

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen

The sequel to 2007's Transformers film brought in $402 million dollars at the domestic box office and $836 million worldwide.

This robot-cars film sees Sam going to college while the Autobots and a military organization work to make earth liveable for their kind. However, when The Fallen Decepticon rises up, Sam and his girlfriend Mikaela must team together with the Autobots to restore the peace.

Titanic

Paramount's best-performing movie swept up $600 million at the domestic box office during its first release. Subsequent releases pushed that number up to $659 million and worldwide, Titanic has taken in nearly $2.2 billion dollars.

This classic 1997 film tells of the romance between Jack, a poor artist, and Rose, a high-class girl who is set to marry the cruel Cal Hockley. Though their love for each other sends sparks flying, it is up against a timeclock: the sinking of the RMS Titanic.

The film received generally positive reviews and multiple Academy Awards including Best Picture.
