Panzer Dragoon: Remake is getting a physical version on PS4 courtesy of Limited Run Games, and a special edition of the release pays homage to the game's roots on the Sega Saturn. The remake came out in April this year as a faithful recreation of the classic on-rails shooter. While it was certainly faithful to the original game, reviewers were unimpressed, complaining about its lack of content and short length.

Not to be deterred, developer MegaPixel spent the ensuing months adding tweaks and updates to improve the experience of the game leading up to its release on PC and PS4. Even though the Sega Saturn was a failure as a console, Panzer Dragoon and its sequels still form a beloved game series that many fans still appreciate and adore. And despite the rocky reception of Panzer Dragoon: Remake, a remake for the sequel, Panzer Dragoon II: Zwei is already in the works. Information on this remake and which platforms it will be available for is slim, but hopefully it's destined for a better reception than its predecessor.

But in the meantime, Panzer Dragoon: Remake is getting a physical release on PS4. The game was already available digitally on the console, following a timed exclusivity period on Switch and Google Stadia. But now Limited Run Games, a company which arranges exclusive physical releases for beloved indie games, is giving it a physical copy as well. And fans who are nostalgic for the good old days can even go farther than putting a standard PS4 case on their shelf, because Limited Run is offering a special Classic Edition too. The Classic Edition comes in an old-fashioned case meant to evoke the days of the Sega Saturn, and is a good way to channel the good old days. Limited Run's physical edition hits the market on December 18th.

Sega has had a very rich history throughout the development of video games. Today the company is certainly best known for Sonic the Hedgehog, the beloved blue blur whose in-your-face attitude and speed-based games let him hold his place as one of the only video game characters to challenge Nintendo's iconic plumber. Sonic's legacy is both enduring and ever-expanding; recently Netflix even spoiled a new animated show starring the blue hedgehog. But Sonic isn't the only classic in Sega's roster, and it's good to see lesser-known aspects of the company's legacy get some love too.

The video game industry never forgets its history. The humble origins of this massive industry are constantly recognized and honored in all sorts of remarkable ways, including a LEGO set in the shape of an NES console. It's definitely not common to see a Sega Saturn case on anyone's shelf in 2020, but thanks to Limited Run Games, fans can make that happen with Panzer Dragoon: Remake on December 18th.
