The director of the highly anticipated Pam & Tommy miniseries had glowing remarks for lead actor Sebastian Stan. Pam & Tommy, a production for Hulu, will star Lily James, Sebastian Stan, Seth Rogen, Nick Offerman, and more. The series became a buzz-worthy topic when the first character photos of Lily James and Sebastian Stan as the titular celebrities were released earlier this month.

Pam & Tommy will follow the real-life relationship between drummer Tommy Lee of the Mötley Crüe and actress and bombshell Pamela Anderson. The relationship, which started with a marriage after only knowing each other for four days in 1995, and ended with Lee receiving a six-month jail sentence for domestic abuse and assault in 1998, enraptured fans and tabloid followers throughout the end of the decade. The couple has two children together. A large part of the fascination with the couple had to do with their unauthorized honeymoon sex tape, which was stolen by Rand Gauthier, played by Rogen, in 1995 and circulated widely on the internet. The series was developed by creative partners Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg under their production company, Point Grey Pictures, and was written by Rob Siegel. It is being directed by Craig Gillespie, who just recently directed Cruella, as well as other works such as I, Tonya, and Lars and the Real Girl

In a recent interview with THR, Gillespie expressed his excitement at Sebastian Stan’s work so far as Tommy Lee. Gillespie explains that the real Tommy Lee has a specific energy that Stan has never had to channel in any of his previous work. Gillespie points out the work Stan has put in to achieve that energy, even commenting on Stan’s physical transformation. As for the meat of the role, the chemistry between Pam and Tommy, Gillespie had high praise for James’s and Stan’s work together.

“How’s that for range!? He’s so talented and is absolutely killing it. Tommy Lee has this energy and this spontaneity to him that I just haven’t seen in Sebastian’s work, necessarily, before. It’s a completely different version of anything I’m familiar with in regard to him. But innately, I felt like he could get there, and he’s done so much work, even physically transforming himself to get to that place. It’s been so much fun to do, I’ve got to say. The two of them in scenes together, I’m finding them quite electric.”

Though Pam & Tommy might be the first time Stan shows off this manic energy, it certainly won't be the last opportunity he has to display his acting range. Stan has a role in The 355, a female-led espionage action film from prolific film producer Simon Kinberg that is expected to premiere in 2022 and stars Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Penélope Cruz, Diane Kruger, and Bingbing Fan. He will also star in more projects including Fresh, a thriller that also stars Normal People’s Daisy Edgar-Jones, and The Brutalist, a period drama about an architect that stars Vanessa Kirby, Joel Edgerton, Marion Cotillard, and Mark Rylance.

Stan has a lot of promising projects to look forward to in the coming years. As their favorite superhero begins to spread his wings and take on different roles, audiences will surely be in for a treat. Until then, fans will just have to wait to see how Sebastian Stan expands his horizons in Pam & Tommy
