Sebastian Stan and Lily James look the part in new Pam & Tommy photos. Directed by Craig Gillespie, who previously helmed I, Tonya, in addition to directing the upcoming live-action Cruella, the miniseries is set to stream on Hulu. It’ll chronicle the true story behind the release of the sex tape featuring Baywatch star Pamela Anderson and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee.

The story, which will be written by Rob Siegel, will also shed light on the relationship between Anderson and Lee by going back to their whirlwind romance that started with getting married in 1995 after only knowing each other for a few days. The miniseries has added notable names to its cast, including Seth Rogen, Nick Offerman, Taylor Schilling, and Andrew Dice Clay. But much of the curiosity around Pam & Tommy is pointed at the central couple. And now, first-look images show what Stan and James will look like in their roles.

New photos shared by JumpCut Online offer a first look at how well the lead actors transform into their respective roles. James, in particular, looks nearly indistinguishable from how Anderson looked in the 1990s. Stan, as well, makes an excellent case for himself as the Mötley Crüe drummer. Rogen is also included in the first look photos, which you can see below. He plays Rand Gauthier, the man who stole and leaked the couple’s sex tape.

When the project was first announced, there were arguments that Pam & Tommy missed out on a perfect casting opportunity by not selecting rapper Machine Gun Kelly and actress Megan Fox as the titular newlyweds. While the duo would have certainly been compelling, the photos illustrate that James and Stan are solid selections in their own right. James is perhaps the more convincing transformation of the two, leaving her days as Downtown Abbey’s Lady Rose behind to become a blonde bombshell. Stan is no slouch either, however, as he takes on the rocker’s tattoos and body piercings. It will be interesting how their pitch-perfect portrayals line up with their performances, as they’ll have to adapt certain elements of the couple’s personality during a tumultuous time period.

Given that it’s been alternatively billed as comedic and a biographical drama, the Hulu miniseries seems poised to give its main duo room for thriving portrayals. It wouldn’t be the first attempt at encapsulating a pair that was, at one point, at the center of pop culture. Anderson has been the focus of an E! True Hollywood Story, not to mention various parodies, while Lee was featured as a character in 2019’s Netflix movie The Dirt. But, given the star power involved, and the talent involved behind the camera, Pam & Tommy could popularize the couple’s turbulent saga for a wider audience.
