Paddington Bear’s official Twitter account has offered an adorable response to news that Paddington 2 has overtaken Citizen Kane on Rotten Tomatoes. The 2017 Paddington sequel added to the success seen by the first film, ensuring that audiences were fully on board for future adventures of the Peruvian bear turned London resident.

From a financial standpoint, Paddington 2 didn’t quite reach the same heights as its predecessor, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t still a major success. The film introduced new characters to the world of Paddington and the Brown family, specifically Hugh Grant’s villainous yet brilliant, Phoenix Buchanan. And although Paddington 2 was the second installment in the growing franchise, it’s arguably the most memorable addition yet. Spanning a sinister plot by Buchanan that sees the innocent Paddington sent to prison and ultimately forced to escape, Paddington 2 has a scope and ambition that the first film lacks. Perhaps then, it’s for this reason that the film recently managed to reach the number one spot as Rotten Tomatoes highest-rated film of all time. Surpassing Citizen Kane for the win, Paddington 2 is once again back in the spotlight and making the most of it.

With news of Paddington 2 having reached Rotten Tomatoes’ top spot now widely known, Paddington’s official Twitter account has become the ideal place for the little brown bear to convey his thoughts on the honor. In a short but sweet Tweet that perfectly captured Paddington’s character, the beloved bear showed his concern for Citizen Kane’s defeat as well as his general confusion over the entire incident. Check out Paddington's response below:

Paddington’s naivety has always played a key factor in his popularity, which first began over sixty years ago. After kicking things off with A Bear Called Paddington in 1958, author Michael Bond’s series has gone on to sell more than 30 million copies worldwide. As a big part of many people’s childhoods, part of the challenge of bringing a successful Paddington adaptation to the big screen was getting the eponymous character just right. Colin Firth was originally set to be the voice of the bear, but as time went on, StudioCanal decided that he simply wasn’t right. Eventually Ben Whishaw was brought in, offering the perfect match for the character. In fact, Whishaw’s delivery can practically be heard in each word of Paddington’s victory Tweet, right down to his innocent addressing of Charles Foster Kane, Citizen Kane’s protagonist, played by the late Orson Welles.

With a third Paddington film officially in the works, fans of the character and the series are no doubt eager to see what sort of adventures are next. Paddington 2 certainly upped the ante compared to the first film in the series, and a third film now has the added pressure of delivering something in line with Paddington 2’s perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. But given that the series has already managed to reach the heights that it has despite the inherent pressures of adapting it, the odds are that Paddington 3 will be every bit as magical and charming as past entries have been.
