Pacific Rim Uprising is kicking up its marketing campaign even further with a new poster and the promise of a new trailer, which will arrive tomorrow. This news comes hot on the heels of star John Boyega saying fans "deserved a new trailer" soon.

Pacific Rim grossed $101.8 domestically and earned $411 million total worldwide during its theatrical run. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro, the first film introduced fans to a world of gods and monsters in the form of mechanized Jaeger suits and Kaiju, their monstrous enemies. The film quickly garnered a cult following who greeted the announcement of a sequel featuring new characters and monsters with glee. Pacific Rim Uprising has already delivered a ton of special surprises for fans including a special contest allowing fans to be in the film, Total Film magazine covers spotlighting the film's star in Boyega and much, much more.

According to IGN, the film will continue to roll out surprises. The studio released a new poster [below] with a great tagline and promises that the second trailer will be released Wednesday, January 24th at 8am PT. The first trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising featured plenty of Kaiju vs. Jaeger action set to a remix of 2Pac's "Untouchable" and Vince Staples' "War Ready" and it's safe to assume that fans can expect much more of the same. The biggest strength of the Pacific Rim series is inclusive sci-fi and fresh world building from masters of the craft, all of which will help create an immersive experience for fans heading to the theaters for the film.

Pacific Rim Uprising Rise Up Poster

Co-starring alongside giant monsters and Jaegers with names like Gypsy Avenger, Bracer Phoenix, Saber Athena, and Guardian Bravo is a large part of the movie but Boyega has promised that the film will have character complexity as well adding dimension to the Kaiju Killers out to save humanity from the Kaiju menace. Set a decade after the original film, Pacific Rim Uprising stars Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, and Burn Gorman reprising their characters from the original film. They are joined by Boyega as Jake Pentecost, son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost out to maintain his father's legacy and newcomers Jing Tian, Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona, and Cailee Spaeny who will all be taking over the support and piloting of the new Jaegers in the film.

The original Pacific Rim delivered gorgeous visuals, unique monster design, fantastic and relatable characters and some very special worldbuilding. It has a place in the hearts and minds of fans but it's worth asking if the film can maintain the same momentum that the previous film did considering it became a cult classic.

The obvious answer is yes. From stars like Boyega making his mark across culture in films like Star Wars: The Last Jedi to this, and newer more exciting storytelling, the newest generation of Jaeger pilots are ready for battle and audiences are ready to pick up where the previous film left off, ready to cancel the apocalypse once again.
