John Boyega has returned to film some new footage for next year's Pacific Rim: Uprising. For many years, fans thought that they might never see a sequel to the Guillermo del Toro-directed 2013 monster movie epic, thanks to some indecisive behind-the-scenes development issues, and a possible lack of confidence in the property from the studio. But then, it was finally announced that the world of Pacific Rim would be returning to the big screen again, though, director Steven DeKnight would be reportedly taking over for del Toro at the helm this time around. And based solely on the creative talent involved in it, the film could very well be one of the dark horses of next year's packed blockbuster lineup.

The film managed to garner quite a bit of excitement thanks to its cast as well, which will be led by Star Wars: The Force Awakens breakout star, John Boyega as the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost from the first film. In addition to Boyega, the cast for the Pacific Rim sequel includes a number of other exciting up and coming actors in the industry right now, such as Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona, Charlie Day, Tian Jing, Jin Zhang, and more.

While principal photography on Pacific Rim: Uprising concluded several months ago, there has been a surprisingly low amount of announcements, or updates from the film since then. However, it looks like John Boyega has returned to the film's set for some pickup shoots. The actor was predictably vague about what it is that he'll be filming for the movie, though, he did take the chance to tease that it's "something special," which should be enough to get some fans speculating at the very least. You can check out Boyega's tweet for yourself down below:

It's hard to know what Boyega might mean by "something special," and if that's just him teasing the existence of the pickup shoots as a whole, or if he's actually filming something that will come as a legitimate shock to audiences when the movie comes out. At this point, only time will tell, especially considering just how little is actually known about the plot and characters of Pacific Rim: Uprising as of right now.

It doesn't look like fans are the only ones curious and anxious to see something substantial from the film either, with Boyega even teasing the possible release of a Pacific Rim: Uprising trailer sometime in the near future. Of course, it's entirely possible that DeKnight and the studio are simply waiting until more of the film's likely complex, enormous visual effects set pieces are completed before releasing a trailer from the film. But with San Diego Comic-Con only a few more weeks away, fans may be able to keep their fingers crossed about seeing some footage sometime sooner, rather than later.
