The official Pacific Rim Uprising poster is now available online, courtesy of the sequel's star John Boyega. This reveal comes hot on the heels of news that the first Uprising trailer will debut at New York Comic Con this year, and Pacific Rim fans are no doubt more than ready to  enter the Drift once more.

Boyega stars in Uprising as Jake Pentecost, son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost from the first Pacific Rim movie. While his father may have canceled the apocalypse, Jake looks ready to make sure it stays canceled with Gipsy Danger behind him. Returning for the Pacific Rim sequel are Charlie Day as Dr. Newton Geiszler, and Burn Gorman as Hermann Gottlieb. They're joined by newcomers Jing Tian, Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona and Levi Meaden in the film, drawing from a script written by Steven DeKnight (who is also directing), Emily Carmichael, Kira Snyder, and T.S. Nowlin. The sequel takes place 10 years after the "battle of the breach" and sees a new generation of Jaeger pilots taking up the fight against massive alien monsters from another dimension.

Done in dark browns and sepia tones, the Pacific Rim Uprising poster that Boyega posted to his Twitter account (see below) is part recruitment one-sheet, part a feast for the eyes. Exactly how Jake will deal with the death of his father, the Kaiju, and whatever trials and tribulations DeKnight (Daredevil) and company chose to throw at him remains to be seen, but this poster suggests that he's more than ready to face just about any challenge.

Hopefully, the other new Jaeger pilots that will be introduced during Pacific Rim Uprising will be getting their own posters (like this one), in the months ahead. Although the original Pacific Rim was only a modest box office hit worldwide (due to its massive budget), it has since developed a solid following of dedicated Kaiju fans. The franchise has an advantage over other giant monster properties (like Godzilla and King Kong), in that its human characters are a big part of its appeal. Fingers crossed, that will remain the case with Uprising.

As for Pacific Rim Uprising's commercial prospects, the sequel arrives a week after the Tomb Raider reboot (starring Alicia Vikander) and one week before director Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One adaptation. With Boyega leading the charge, the Pacific Rim sequel stands to put up a good fight at the box office, even in the face of some major competition.
