OnePlus has announced OxygenOS 13 as the next iteration of its custom user interface for its Android smartphones. OxygenOS is the custom Android skin that ships with OnePlus smartphones sold outside China. For the company's phones in China, OnePlus ships them with ColorOS, Oppo's custom UI for its smartphones.

In 2021, OnePlus announced that it was going to merge OxygenOS with ColorOS, creating a new unified operating system that would be released in 2022. However, the company decided to cancel the plan in February 2022 following the backlash it received from fans. Despite the cancellation, both operating systems are still linked as they share the same unified OS codebase.

When OxygenOS 13 begins to roll out to eligible devices, it will bring a new visual style that OnePlus calls “Aquamorphic” and says is inspired by water. Among the visual changes is an improved Always-on Display. Users will be able to choose from several AOD styles including a new widget co-developed with Spotify that shows current playback. The Canvas and Bitmoji AOD styles have also been updated. Furthermore, OnePlus says the launcher is now more intuitive and efficient with folders that dynamically adjust, and redesigned icons and widgets with rounded corners.

Other Changes & Supported Models

OxygenOS 13 will be based on Android 13

Another change users will notice is a gradual shift from light to dark colors as the day progresses. To improve productivity, OxygenOS 13 will also bring a new sidebar toolbox that provides access to important applications and tools in a floating window. OnePlus has also revealed that OxygenOS 13 will bring Spatial Audio and Audio Switching to compatible devices. Finally, users will also have more privacy tools at their disposal including an enhanced Private Safe for storing documents, images, videos, and preventing other apps from accessing them.

OxygenOS 13 will begin rolling out this year starting with the OnePlus 10 Pro and the OnePlus 10T. It will also be available for the OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9R, OnePlus 9RT, OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro, and the OnePlus 8T. The update will also roll out to the Nord 2, Nord 2T, Nord CE 2, Nord CE, and Nord CE 2 Lite. There is no mention of the Nord N20 5G, which isn't much of a surprise since the phone launched with OyxgenOS 11. It is only eligible for one OS upgrade and that will be to OxygenOS 12.

A rollout plan is yet to be released but it is expected that OnePlus will reveal when the update will arrive for eligible devices after Android 13 has been properly released. OnePlus has also revealed that a beta version of OxygenOS 13 will be made available for the OnePlus 10 Pro soon. When it arrives, more details about what's new with OxygenOS 13 should become available.
