It's been confirmed that new Overwatch 2 updates will be revealed later this month as part of the Overwatch League Grand Finals. The update will give fans their first new look at Overwatch 2 since the last development update back in May this year, which included lots of details on the upcoming game's Rio de Janeiro map.

Overwatch 2 is one of the most highly-anticipated upcoming shooters, promising to switch up and improve on the beloved formula of 2016's Overwatch. As well as replacing 6v6 matches with 5v5, Overwatch 2 will make the most of new-gen technology with larger-scale battles, improved effects, and more detailed environments. Although the game was first announced in 2019, recent rumors have claimed that fans will have to wait a little longer for the release of the hero-based shooter sequel, with Overwatch 2 allegedly not launching until 2023.

Blizzard has announced that new Overwatch 2 details will be included during the Overwatch League Grand Finals, which will take place later this month on September 25. Fans can expect to see a look at some of the reworked heroes they'll find in the game, as well as a pro player exhibition match. Bastion and Sombra will be featured during the event, and fans will get a closer look at Bastion's new design. The Overwatch 2 spotlights will take place during the Overwatch League Grand Finals' pre-show and half-time events, beginning 5 pm Pacific Time.

Blizzard had previously revealed that Bastion's design would be reworked from the ground up, and the Overwatch League Grand Finals is set to explain the reasons behind the character's Overwatch 2 redesign. Players can expect to see big changes to how Bastion currently plays, demonstrating yet another big transition from the original Overwatch. Bastion's new look has already been revealed, along with Overwatch 2's Sombra, but the upcoming event will explain how Bastion's new look will fit into the world of Overwatch 2.

While the Overwatch League Grand Finals is set to be an unmissable event for Overwatch fans, players shouldn't expect to see any big announcements regarding the game's release date, as it likely won't be coming anytime soon. It's believed the game is approaching a playable state, with Blizzard planning to reveal an early version of the game next year. This summer it was announced that OWL's 2022 season is set to begin in April 2022, and will include a functional yet early build of Overwatch 2. This means the game is expected to be playable by the teams for that date, but more than likely won't be available to the public before then.
