An Overwatch 2 screenshot may tease an upcoming new hero, according to some excited fans. The upcoming sequel to Blizzard's hero-based first-person shooter, which was announced back in 2019, will overhaul the first title's gameplay and add new features like cooperative PvE. An Overwatch 2 PvP beta was recently announced, giving fans a chance to sign up before it arrives in late April.

As a successor to Overwatch, the upcoming sequel will introduce new mechanics, heroes, maps and game modes to the team-based experience. Competitive player vs player modes will transition from six-player teams to five-player teams, shaking up the shooter's dynamic by removing a tank from each team's lineup. A dedicated PvE game mode will be another dramatic addition to Overwatch 2, as it will allow groups of players to cooperatively mow down hordes of computer-controlled enemies to their heart's content. Players will be able to try out new maps in the upcoming Overwatch 2 beta, like Circuit Royal and Midtown, alongside a mysterious new hero named Sojourn.

According to Reddit user shatteredsunx, an Overwatch 2 screenshot may hint at the arrival of an upcoming hero. A glimpse at the new Colosseo map, which will be included in the PvP beta, shows off an impressive statue of an armored warrior named Magnus. The character's distinct design, and the game's lack of any characters from Rome, leads shatteredsunx and others to believe that Magnus will make an appearance as a playable hero in Overwatch 2. Other Redditors remain skeptical, however, believing the statue to be a mere environmental detail and decrying the addition of more melee heroes. Whether Magnus will actually appear as a new hero, and when, remains to be seen.

While many fans are excited for the upcoming PvP beta, developer Blizzard recently admitted that it let Overwatch 2 fans down in terms of communication. The sequel was announced back in 2019, but this reveal was followed by a long stretch of silence without any developer updates. Development of Overwatch 2 even took precedence over continued support for the first game, meaning that Overwatch fans were forced to go months without any significant updates for either title. However, with the upcoming beta it seems Overwatch 2 may be on track.

Overwatch 2 plans to make major changes and additions to Blizzard's first team-based shooter, and new heroes are definitely part of the plan. Sojourn's design and role have already been revealed, but Magnus could be another unique addition to the game's roster down the line. With a mighty sword and gorgeous armor, the character could be a melee powerhouse similar to Genji and Doomfist.
