Following the exit of Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan, Blizzard is ready to showcase the sequel to its popular team shooter in a special livestream. Overwatch 2 details have been scarce since its announcement in 2019, but fans eagerly awaiting any information will want to gather around their screens to learn the latest later this month.

Blizzard released the first developer update from new Overwatch game director, Aaron Keller, where he delivered the news to fans. When Keller appeared in the latest Overwatch developer update, he explained that "PVP is at the core of what makes Ovewatch feel so special." With that in mind, Overwatch fans should expect a livestream filled with gameplay and information on how PVP in Overwatch 2 will look and feel.

The livestream will be hosted by Blizzard, but the Overwatch game development team, as well as Overwatch League teams, will participate in what will likely be a demonstration of Overwatch 2 PVP. Which Overwatch League teams will participate in the PVP livestream is unclear at this time, but it's very likely that one of the local teams like the San Francisco Shock will appear.

Keller explained in the developer update that the Overwatch team will go over various maps and what the team is calling the philosophy behind the changes coming to Overwatch 2's PVP. The emphasis on these changes indicates that any alteration to PVP may be massive and could affect how the mode is played in the upcoming sequel. Keller also asked fans and viewers to temper expectations on how the game looks when it's shown on May 20. Overwatch 2 is still being developed and is a work in progress. It's also safe to not expect an Overwatch 2 release date with this upcoming stream.

The latest Overwatch developer update didn't go into any more detail on what will be shown during the upcoming stream, but players can expect gameplay on the new Push PVP mode that was announced at the same time as Overwatch 2 in 2019. Push is described as a "new, symmetrical map type" that lets teams battle to take control of a robot that starts in a centralized location. The objective is to push the robot toward the enemy base, with the team who pushes it the furthest onto the enemy side wins the game. Players will be able to take control of the robot at any time.

The Overwatch 2 PVP livestream will show two hours of gameplay on May 20 on the various Blizzard/Overwatch social media accounts. According to Keller, more Overwatch 2 news will be released later this year but fans will want to tune in to to the PVP stream to learn more about what's to come.
