Fans awaiting news for the competitive hero shooter Overwatch 2 finally received updates regarding an upcoming beta this April, which promises new maps and access to the new damage hero, Sojourn. It has been almost two years since the original Overwatch game received any substantial content with the addition of the 32nd hero, Echo. Development for Overwatch 2 has had several issues since it was first announced at Blizzcon in 2019.

The first game in the series consisted of mostly 6v6 battles against other players. Certain seasonal events offered different game modes and a few PVE missions that were only playable during certain times of the year. The next game promises to deliver more of a story with missions that should allow a team of heroes to battle hordes of enemies using customizable abilities and new heroes. News has been incredibly scarce since Overwatch 2's announcement, but today's developer update gave fans a lot to look forward to when the beta arrives this April.

After months of rumors, Overwatch 2's beta has finally been announced, and this April, players who can sign up will be able to try new maps, the new Push Game Mode, and the new damage hero Sojourn. Overwatch's 33rd playable hero has been described as a new damage sniper. However, players have yet to see her abilities or playstyle in action. While the game's website did struggle to stay up after its announcement, players can now sign up for the beta and read more on the PlayOverwatch website. The beta also promises to introduce more than the 33rd hero.

It was recently announced that the anticipated 2022 Overwatch League season will be played on an early build of Overwatch 2. Both professional players and Blizzard employees are now able to test out the Overwatch 2 Beta early. Still, today's update revealed more of what the beta has in store for fans in April. Previous gameplay videos showed the new PUSH game mode, which players will be able to try out in the beta. Four new maps will also be playable, including two created specifically for the new game mode. The beta also looks to introduce hero reworks for Orisa, Doomfist, Bastion, and Sombra. Many of Overwatch's heroes will be seeing significant adjustments to their abilities and playstyles for the new PVP battles.

After years of little to no new OW2 information, today's announcement is a definite change of pace. News of Overwatch 2's full game being delayed till 2023 was disappointing for players who'd already waited years after the title's initial announcement. The new update did not help narrow down a timeframe of when the full game will be released with all of its promised features, including PVE story missions, customizable abilities, and the tight gameplay fans have come to expect from the franchise. However, the long streak of no Overwatch 2 news has come to an end, and fans can hopefully expect more updates before the game's beta launches next month.
