The Outsider TV Series Main Cast

The Outsider stars Jason Bateman and Ben Mendelsohn

Ben Mendelsohn as Ralph Anderson – By the end of episode 2, it becomes clear that The Outsider is Ralph’s story. Ralph Anderson is a veteran cop haunted by the death of his young son due to cancer. When it seemingly becomes clear his dead son's Little League coach committed the murder, Ralph is consumed by his own personal demons in an effort to somehow get closure on his own grief through justice. Mendelsohn has previously appeared in Captain Marvel, Rogue One, and Ready Player One.

Jason Bateman as Terry Maitland – Terry is the previously beloved coach of the local Little League baseball team. His world, and everyone else’s, comes crashing down when all the evidence of young Frankie Peterson’s murder points back to him. Ralph makes a point to arrest him in the middle of a game to turn the town against him and satisfy his own desire for revenge on someone who had contact with his own son that he thinks is a brutal killer of children. Bateman is best known for his time on Arrested Development, Ozark, and his appearances in Juno and Dodgeball.

Julianne Nicholson as Marcy Maitland – Terry’s wife suddenly finds herself in a living nightmare after her husband, who she knows was out of town during the murder, gets arrested in front of her at a baseball game. As the situation unfolds in a shocking fashion, she’s put in the unthinkable position of having to help Ralph solve the case. Nicholson has starred in Law & Order, Boardwalk Empire, and Ally McBeal.

Bill Camp as Howie Gold – Howie is Terry’s lawyer and immediately establishes himself as a force to be reckoned with when he confronts the police. Howie’s use of a private investigator to find exonerating evidence for Terry is what blows the whole case wide open and introduces the true supernatural elements of this mystery. Camp has recently appeared in Joker, Dark Waters, and Native Son.

Yul Vazquez as Yunis Sablo – Yunis is a GBI officer working on the case with Ralph. At first, he appears to be the sober minded, procedural foil for Ralph before he too gets consumed by the personal nature of the case after the Peterson family continues to suffer horrific tragedies in the aftermath of the murder of little Frankie. Vazquez is known for his time on Treme, I Am The Night, and Bloodline.

The Outsider currently airs on HBO on Sundays at 9 pm EST through March 8th.
