It has just been announced in the most recent patch notes that Outriders players who fell victim to the inventory wipe bug before the latest fix will not only be given all of their gear back, they'll be given even better versions. Outriders is an online shooter from Square Enix and developer People Can Fly, releasing on the first of April to widely mixed reviews due to the rampant crashes and server issues plaguing the title. For players who have been able to actually experience the game, reviews have been skewed towards the positive side, but mostly remain moderate overall. Despite these issues, however, the game has been massively successful in terms of units sold, even though the game is free on Xbox Game Pass.

The always-online experience has been suffering from a rough launch, with players on every system experiencing a myriad of glitches and crashes on both the game and its servers. One of the most prominent issues plaguing the game, besides the fact that many people couldn't play it at all, was that players were randomly getting their entire inventories wiped for no reason. Players have been understandably worried that their hard-earned loot would be gone forever, but People Can Fly and Square Enix have just released patch notes outlining a fix for this bug along with repayment to those affected.

As stated in a Reddit post from Square Enix, inventory restoration will soon be underway for all players who have had their inventories wiped, initially prioritizing those who can't use their characters at all because of the glitch. Along with this restoration, according to the post, players will have their returned gear upgraded to the maximum level the character can equip and will be provided with God Roll values on the items' attributes. This means that players affected by the bug will not only have all of their equipment back, but for most people, it'll be better than when they lost it.

Another apology offer in this post is the "Community Appreciation Package" which includes Titanium, a legendary weapon, and the currently exclusive "frustration" emote to players who have played before April 16th or anyone who has had their inventory wiped. Other changes including various unannounced patches and balance fixes will also be hitting the game in the near future. There is currently no exact date given for when these fixes and changes will take effect, but the developers have promised that they'll come to the game "ASAP."

Almost a full month after launch, the development team for Outriders is still in a constant state of damage control, dealing with errors not only in the game but the servers themselves. These changes and apology gifts are a welcome sight for frustrated players, but is it enough to get people to forgive the widely criticized launch? Outriders is the latest in a long line of live service games that forced their users into an unreliable online environment. It's taking a lot of time and work to bring the game to working condition, and the review scores are bombing as a result. There is a lot riding on the shoulders of People Can Fly, as the speed and quality of these fixes will determine whether the game can make a comeback or fall down the same path as Anthem and other live service games before it.
