Developer People Can Fly rolled out an Outriders update on all platforms that should finally prevent the inventory wipe glitch from occurring, though players who were previously impacted by the bug are not yet in the clear. A persistent inventory glitch has plagued Outriders since launch. While People Can Fly quickly addressed the bug with a patch, that very same patch incidentally compounded the problem by causing many players to lose all of their in-game progress.

Last week, the development studio deployed yet another hotfix that boasted unspecified "preventive measures" meant to curtail future inventory glitches. And, still, countless players reported the bug persisted without pause. Inventory-related woes aren't all that Outriders users are contending with, either. Crashes serve as another major hiccup, one that's especially proven detrimental to PC players since they are known to fill storage drives with junk files. At the very least, People Can Fly seems to have solved one lingering issue.

In a post on the official Outriders subreddit, a Square Enix-run account noted that a new patch has gone live on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox systems. The latest update, referred to as the "Inventory Wipe Prevention Patch," specifically targets the dreaded inventory glitch. While the bug shouldn't rear its ugly head any longer, this particular fix does not restore the inventories of players who previously lost their items. Fortunately, whenever the restoration process is ready for primetime, players won't have to download another update. According to the Reddit post:

"Restoring the inventory of affected players is still our highest priority, while today’s patch is intended to prevent the issue from continuing to occur. The restoration process is run via our server database and does not require a patch to be implemented. We will have news of this very soon."

Here's to hoping the patch fixes the inventory wipe glitch once and for all. With this problem possibly settled, and the restoration process in the works, People Can Fly may be able to start implementing Outrider's content-related player feedback sometime soon.

Despite its various setbacks and shortcomings, Outriders has proven quite the success story for its development team and Square Enix. For instance, the title became classified as Square Enix's biggest Steam launch in history, even compared to last year's Marvel's Avengers release.
