Starz reveals the Outlander season 6 opening credits in a haunting new video. The Outlander series, which is based on the ongoing novel series of the same name by Diana Gabaldon, premiered its first season back in August of 2014. Since then, nearly every season has received near-universal acclaim from critics, who praise the show's impressive depth and potent chemistry between the lead couple, Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe).

Outlander season 5 ended with plenty of twists and turns, many of which were anticipated by fans of Gabaldon's book series. Some twists, however, jumped forward in the timeline, outside of the fifth book, titled The Fiery Cross. Based on the sixth book in the series, A Breath of Snow and AshesOutlander season 6 is expected to pick up right after the events of the season 5 finale, which saw the couple dealing with the fallout of Lionel Brown's (Ned Dennehy) attack and assault on Claire. Not only will the upcoming season dive into a new book in the series, but it also set to have brand new opening credits as well.

Starz released a haunting video to their YouTube account that shows the Outlander season 6 opening credit sequence. Showing how "thankful" they are to "Outlander fans," the credits feature a new rendition of the show's theme song, Skye Boat Song, by Raya Yarbrough and Griogair Labhruidh. The sequence also intermixes shots that have been a staple in the credits since season 1, as well as new scenes taken from around Fraser's Ridge. New scenes in the opening credits include Claire wielding a rifle and intimate moments between her and Jamie. The sequence also offers a glimpse of Ian, Jamie's nephew, siting by the fire and Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin) kneeling in prayer. The entire sequence concludes with a shot of Jamie and Claire looking over the hills of North Carolina as snow begins to fall around them. One thing of note about the new credits is that unlike season 5's theme song that featured a choir or the previous seasons that included a breathtaking solo, the Outlander season 6 credits song contains a duet between a man and a woman. This change in direction could allude to Jamie and Claire's partnership strengthening as they head towards uncertain territory.

Fans of the hit Starz series may be disappointed in the fact that the upcoming Outlander season will only include eight total episodes (due to the COVID-19 pandemic). However, season 7 has already been extended from 12 episodes to 16 episodes in order to make up the difference. Still, given the beautiful rendition of the new opening theme song, as well as the new visuals, fans can expect Outlander season 6 to be as memorable as the previous seasons. The new episodes are expected to drop starting on March 6, 2022.
